How Search Dog Teams are Deployed Handlers are skilled in terrain orientation and will map the area they have covered by recording their GPS tracks while they are covering their sector. Several dog teams may work simultaneously to provide fast, thorough, initial coverage of the highest probability areas. By systematic assignments, the entire search area can be covered. Upon completing their assignments, the handler will report to the incident commander and map out the area covered by downloading the GPS tracks they recorded and these are compared to the sector they were assigned to see if the entire area was effectivley covered or not, their POD (Probability of Detection), and clues found. Our unit provides support personnel who will coordinate between the requesting agency and the dog teams, provide topo and Aerial photos of the search areas, operate radio communications and document the search team progress.
