Homework For Monday 2/2 Students are to complete their letter to the President on the current economic situation. Students are also working on a research report on the Boll Weevil. This repport is due Friday. |
Grading Scale and Grading Policy Grades consist of three equal parts:
Rationale: If students aren't participating, they aren't learning. Students can earn a 100 every day by bringing required materials and participating in the day's activities. Grading Policy: Students who fail an assignment will have three days to do the assignment over. This goes for classwork, tests, and projects. Notebook tests and homework are not included.

Project Notes Feb. 1, 1865 Congress passes 13th Amendment (abolishes slavery) 1865 Creation of Freedmen’s Bureau (created to help freed slaves adjust to new life. Run by Oliver O. Howard) April 15, 1865 Abraham Lincoln assassinated (by John Wilkes Booth, Andrew Johnson becomes president. This is bad for the south because Lincoln had wanted reconstruction to be simple. Radical republicans now persuade Johnson to add additional steps to Reconstruction) Dec. 18, 1865 Georgia ratifies 13th Amendment (but Georgia is not allowed to rejoin the Union – people in Georgia are upset with republicans because of this) 1865 Black Codes (Laws passed by southern states to restrict the rights of former slaves. Example: blacks could only do agricultural jobs, no serving on juries, couldn’t vote, etc.) June 1866 Congress passes 14th Amendment (guaranteed equal protection under the law – passed in response to black codes. The former Confederate states are also required to ratify it before rejoining the Union) March 1867 South placed under military rule (for refusing to ratify the 14th Amendment, General John Pope in charge of Georgia. People in Georgia again blame republicans for this. While under military rule Georgia ratifies the 14th amendment) |
Project Notes 1868 Ku Klux Klan (active in GA trying to prevent blacks from voting) Feb. 1869 Congress passes 15th Amendment (cannot deny right to vote because of race – passed because of the KKK) December 1869 Georgia Act (passed by Congress. Places Georgia under military control again, GA is forced to ratify the 15th Amendment because of the KKK. Whites blame Republicans.) July 1870 Georgia readmitted to the Union (5 years after the war ends)
