With Five Days To Go...

The end of school is quickly approaching! It has been quite a year, filled with ups and downs for everyone. I know I have learned A LOT, and I hope your student has too. We are still learning so much, with science experiments and final year end assessments. Please make sure your student is present and on time. These last few days are equally important. A lot is still going on!

Current Classroom News

Parents,
Please be aware of the following things going on in our school and classroom right now!

Toys
Parents, I am having a great deal of trouble with toys coming into the classroom, especially with the boys bringing in their Bakugan figurines. I have asked them repeatedly not to bring them or play with them in class, but it does not seem to help. As a result, I have warned them that if I see any toy, I will take it up and keep it until the end of the year. Please help me enforce the "No Toys" policy and make sure they don't get brought to school. I do not like having a collection of toys in my desk, but I can't have them interrupting my instruction either. Thank you.

Communicators and Conduct Points!
Please remember that communicators need to be signed every week. The yellow folder and orange sheet need to stay in the communicator at all times. I am getting a lot of communicators returned without the orange sheet. Please sign it and place it back in the communicator. Also, I am getting a lot of conduct sheets back in the mornings unsigned. Those need to be signed every night! I do not want anyone to be surprised when they see their child's conduct grade. Please make sure you check those every night and communicators on Wednesdays!

Scholastic Book Clubs!
You can now order Scholastic books online. Even better - when you do, our class gets one FREE book for the classroom! Go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs (the link can be found in the "Links" section at the bottom of this page) and sign in. You don't have to create a username or anything! Our class username is garnersecond and our password is hannanhawks. Search through the books and place your order. It is as easy as that! And remember, every online order helps our class.

New catalogs are open online! With the new year came new opportunities. Online now find catalogs filled with favorite authors, timeless treasures, books focused on Black History month, and tons of other books... all at great prices!!
All orders are due by February 15th.

Thank You!

  Mission Statement
The Muscogee County School District and Hannan Academy are committed to providing educational experiences that will enable each student to become a lifelong learner, enter the work force with necessary skills and achieve academic and personal potential.

Discipline/Behavior System
Here at Hannan we are using a points based discipline system. The student will receive two warnings before losing a point. Each child can earn up to 5 points in each of the six following areas: Language Arts; Math; Reading; Social Studies/Science; Specials; Lunch/Recess (this also encompasses hallway behavior). This gives the student a total of 30 points they can earn in one day. I do NOT assign the points for Specials - that is up the the Specials teahcers. Conduct grades are assigned according to how many points a student earns.

  • 27-30 = A
  • 24-26 = B
  • 21-23 = C
  • 20 and below = F

Every night, a conduct point sheet goes home with your child. This must be signed EVERY night and returned to school. I send them home in your child's homework folder. If there is a serious issue, or loss of points, I will hand-write a note to explain your child's points for that particular day.

Additionally, within our classroom, we have a colored based behavior system. This enables the student to be responsible for their own grade. The colors are assigned according to the grade they have based on the school's system.

  • A = Green
  • B = Blue
  • C = Yellow
  • F = Red

We also have an incentive program in the class. If a student earns all 30 points for a day, they receive a sticker. At the end of the week if they have earned five stickers, they are able to select a prize from my prize box. If they earn four stickers they receive a piece of candy. Both the color behavior chart as well as the incentives charts are posted for their viewing and for yours if you would like to come and see how your child is doing. Incentive charts will be sent home at the end of each month.

If you have any questions about the school's discipline system, or the systems we have in our room, please feel free to contact me and I can further explain them to you.
