FEW Mission Statement

Federally Employed Women (FEW) is a membership organization working for the elimination of sexual harassment and the advancement of women in government. This will be accomplished by: Encouraging diversity and equity in the workplace Enhancing career opportunities for women Establishing and maintaining relationships with organizations to advocate the fair application of EEO and personnel laws, policies, procedures, and practices Improving the quality of life for women by influencing Congressional and Administration actions Committing to achieve and maintain a unified and diverse membership; and Providing opportunities for professional growth through leadership development, education, mentoring, and networking. The FEW mission and purpose statement was revised to recognize that the mission of an organization is its driving force, and that FEW's mission needed to be consistent with the needs of federal women today on into the 21st century.

A Message from the Chapter President.

The FEW National Training Program, July 20 – 24, was held at the largest Marriott I’ve ever seen, the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, FL. It was a great event and well-attended by our Chapter. A total of 8 members attended: 3 scholarship recipients: Alice Rameriz-Hanselman, Donna Morrell and Lymerian Little and 4 members worked on the NTP Committee : Jeanette McElhaney, Janet Picha, Patrina Painter, and Donna Morrell and me. Donna, who joined our Chapter in February 2009, was honored at the Awards Program with a National Collegiate Scholarship. Congratulations Donna!

We were the only Chapter to have a booth at the NTP where we handed out the new Chapter Membership Information brochures and candy. We paid for a booth hoping to get 3 people interested in our Chapter and to sign up at the NTP. According to the July Membership Roster, two people did in fact join our Chapter! A warm welcome to Nancy Milton, an Administrative Officer and JoAnn Pittman, a Public Affairs Specialist, who both joined at the NTP on July 23rd.

At the SE Region Meeting, ten Chapters out of the 16 in the SE Region attended. SE Region Board Members and Committee reps gave reports, Chapters gave reports, we approved an updated SE Region By-Laws, and the next SE Regional Training Program was announced, February 10 – 12, at the Hampton Inn in Pensacola Beach, FL. Mark your calendars now!

In addition to the NTP, I attended a Chapter President’s Leaders Forum the 2 days prior to the NTP. I received a Chapter Handbook on a CD and learned everything I wanted to know about FEW but was afraid to ask!

Finally, the next NTP was also announced so mark your calendars for this great event too. FEW is heading to the Big Easy to “Jazz up your Career,” July 12 – 16, 2010, in New Orleans, LA! I hope to see at least 10 Chapter members in New Orleans in 2010 so start working on those training folks now!

Besides our federal jobs many of us have our own business or are thinking of starting our own business.
