SONGS

The Brownie Smile Song

I have something in my pocket, it belongs across my face,
And I keep it very close at hand in a most convenient place.

I'm sure you couldn't guess it, if you guessed a long, long while.
So I'll take it out and put it on- It's a great big Brownie Smile!

Make New Friends

Make new friends, but keep the old.
One is silver, and the other's gold.

A circle's round, it has no end.
That's how long I want to be your friend.

Kookaburra (Australia)

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra
Gay your life must be!

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gumdrops he can see
Stop, Kookaburra, stop, Kookaburra
Leave some there for me!

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Counting all the monkeys he can see
Stop, Kookaburra, stop, Kookaburra
That's no monkey, that's me!

Six Little Ducks

Six little ducks that I once knew
Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones, too
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with a quack, quack, quack.

Chorus:
Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, quack
He led the others with a quack, quack, quack.

Down to the river they would go
Wibble, wobble, wibble, wobble to and fro
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with a quack, quack, quack.

Chorus

Back from the river they would come
Wibble, wobble, wibble, wobble, ho, hum, hum
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with a quack, quack, quack.

Chorus

GRACES

"Superman"
to the tune of the Superman theme song.

Thank you, God, for the food (strike a "Superman" pose to the right)
Thank you, God, for our friends (strike a "Superman" pose to the left)
For the food we eat,(raise right arm)
For the friends we meet, (raise left arm)
We thank you, God. (strike a "Superman" pose to center)

GAMES

Animal Sounds Charades

Chicken - Lion - Parrot - Fly - Frog - Alligator - Cricket - Elephant - Monkey - Horse - Rattlesnake - Cat - Donkey - Sea Lion - Mouse - Sparrow - Cow - Owl - Dog - Pig - Rooster

Write the name of each animal on a piece of paper. Put the pieces of paper in a bag and shake well. Pull out an animal name. Don't tell anyone. Show the others who you are by sounding like that animal. Can you think of more animals to add to the game?

Follow the Leader - Animal Style

Take turns being the leader. Each leader moves like an animal and the other players follow. See below for some ideas.

Rabbit Hop: Bend your knees and jump forward.

Seal Slide: Pull yourself forward with your hands at your side while dragging your body and feet. Bounce a little if you can.

Elephant Walk: Bend forward. Extend your arms and place one hand over the other to form a trunk. Make sure that your fingers are pointing toward the ground. Move slowly with legs stiff and straight and your trunk swinging from side to side.

Crab Scuttle: Sit on the floor with your hands behind you. Lift up your body with your hands and feet. Walk on all fours. Walk forward and backward quickly like this.

Inchworm Crawl: Place both hands on the floor. Try to keep your knees stiff and legs straight, but bend your knees if you have to. Walk forward with your hands as far as you can, and then walk forwand with your feet to your hands.

Frog Jump: Squat on the floor with hands in front of feet. Jump forward and land on both hands and feet.

Snake Slither: Lie on the floor on your stomach. Keep your arms against the sides of your body. Move your body from side to side and try making an "S" shape.

Peacock Dance

Form a circle with the leader standing in the center. The leader selects two players from the circle to represent two peacocks. The "peacocks" stand back to back while the leader pins or tapes a piece of colored paper or ribbon to each of the girls' backs. By moving and jumping around, each player will try to discover the color on her opponents back. The winner is the girl who discovers her opponent's color first. Two new players are chosen and a new round begins.

variation
For older girls pin or tape two or three colors on each "peacock's" back. The winner is the girl who discovers all of the colors on her opponent's back.

Red Light, Green Light (United States of America)

This is just one of many ways to play this game.

1. Choose someone to be "it." The person who is "it" stands at one end of the playing field, far away from all the other players.

2. The other players line up along the starting line at the opposite end of the field.

3. "It" turns her back to the group and yells "green light." The players may now run toward "it."

4. When "it" yells "red light," everyone must stop running and freeze. "It" turns around right after she yells "red light." If "it" catches anyone moving, that person has to go back to the starting line.

5. The game continues until someone has been able to reach and touch "it" while "it" has her back turned to the group.

6. That person becomes the next "it."

Kim's Game (England)

Girl Scouts and Girl Guides all over the world play this game. You and your friends can have fun playing it, too!

You will need:
1 or more friends.
At least 9 small objects.
A scarf or piece of cloth.

1. Put 9 things on a table. Be sure you can cover all of them with the scarf or piece of cloth.

2. Show the players the 9 things for one minute. Then cover them.

3. Ask the players what was on the table. See if they can list all 9 things.

Variation: Remove one object and see who can guess what that object is first.

Jan-Ken-Pon (Japan)

This is a game for two players.

1. Two players face each other with their hands behind them.

2. Together, they say "jan-ken-pon." On "pon," both bring a hand forward to stand for a stone (a fist), paper (flat hand), or scissors (V-shape with the index finger and middle finger).

3. Stone beats scissors because it can break them. Scissors beat paper because they can cut it. Paper beats stone because paper can wrap up the stone.

4. A player gets a point each time her hand beats the other's. the first player who gets seven points wins!

The Cat and the Mouse (Peru)

Gather a group of friends in a circle. Find two neck ties with different patterns. Choose one neck tie to be the "cat" and make the other the "mouse." Give the "cat" to one player and the "mouse" to a player across the circle. When a player has the "cat," she must toss it in the air and clap once before catching it. When a player has the "mouse," she must toss it and clap twice before catching it. Each player must catch the tie before passing it clockwise to the next player. The "mouse" is caught when one player ends up with both ties. That player steps out of the circle. Play starts again from the beginning and continues until one player is left.
