Tips from your School Counselor

    1. Go to sleep early so you will do your best at school!
    2. Eat a good nutritional breakfast before you start your school day!
    3. Have a calendar and mark important events and when projects and homework are due!
    4. Work on projects as soon as you get them. Try not to wait until the last day. It makes you hurry and not do the best job possible.

Frequently Asked Questions about your School Counselor

1. What services does the school counselor provide?

I provide the following: Parent/Teacher conferences, Family/Counselor conferences, parent information for services, crisis response, staff education, 504 chair, Student Support Assistant, and meet individual needs of the students.

2. If my child sees the school counselor will I know what was said?

Children have the right to know they can come and talk to me in private. I inform each student that confidentiality will be broken if they threaten to harm themselves or someone else, someone is harming them, or if the security of the school is threatened. If I feel there is a need to contact the parent I will call and set up a conference. Please remember parents are always welcomed to contact me at anytime!

3. How do I contact the counselor?

My phone number is 706-748-2742 or my email address is hjordan@mcsdga.net

4. Do you handle discipline at the school?

No, it would be very difficult to try to be therapeutic with a child and discipline them at the same time.

5. If I need to see the counselor about my child when can I come?

Please make an appointment, but if it is a true emergency I will see you as quickly as possible.

6. If you see my child will you call and tell me?

It depends on what I saw them for. Most of the time it is due to minor issues such as "he said/she said" type problems and it is quickly resolved. If I determine your child is in a crisis then I would contact you.
