PROM DRESS CODE

PROM DRESS CODE

 

GIRLS:  Gowns

  1. Floor-length or tea-length (mid-calf).
  2. Slit height limited to 4 inches above the kneecap.
  3. Midriffs must be covered.
  4. Backs must be equal to or higher than the natural waistline.**
  5. Sides of the dress must provide complete coverage of the breast and midriff areas.
  6. Plunging necklines, such as “V” necklines that extend down to the midriff at the bottom of the rib cage are inappropriate.  The area between the breasts must be covered.
  7. Proper undergarments should be worn and should not be visible through the outer clothing.
  8. Strapless dresses are appropriate as long as appropriate undergarments are worn as well.
  9. Formal gloves are acceptable.
  10. Shawls or wraps are acceptable.
  11. Dress shoes or dress sandals are acceptable.

      **natural waistline = draw an imaginary line starting at the bellybutton and go around to the

          back of the body and then back around to the bellybutton again...that’s the natural

          waistline

 

BOYS:  Tuxedos

  1. Formal tuxedo/formal suit.
  2. Formal gloves are acceptable.
  3. Formal hats are acceptable.
  4. Dress belts (with belt buckles no larger than 2” x 2”) are acceptable.
  5. Shirts must be tucked in and pants pulled up.
  6. Dress shoes are acceptable.

 

The Following Things Are Not Permitted For Either Gender:

  1. Ornamental dental wear (grillz)
  2. Sunglasses
  3. Ornamental canes or ornamental walking sticks
  4. Do-rags or tennis bands around the head
  5. Baseball hats
  6. Attire that has wild colors, animal fur/print, feathers, chains, etc.)
  7. See through or transparent attire
  8. Airbrushed attire or attire with ironed-on/embroidered pictures
  9. Lace-up skirts, pants, or shirts
  10. Skirts above mid-calf.
  11. Tennis shoes, flip-flops, bedroom shoes, hiking boots
  12. T-shirts (may only be worn as an undergarment)
  13. Jeans, cargo pants, or shorts
  14. Attire that portrays or implies alcohol, tobacco products, gang insignia, violence, guns/weapons, drugs/drug use (ex:  the “Snowman”)
  15. Attire that is offensive to others

 

PLAN AHEAD….students should wear attire, undergarments, hairstyles, and accessories that are complementary to their body styles and doesn’t restrict them from being able to enjoy the evening.
