Welcome To Our Room!
We would like to welcome you to our classroom. I cannot believe how quickly the year is flying by! We are making great progress toward the CRCT in April and moving on to third grade! Thank you for visiting our website. I hope that it will give you extra information about what is going on in our classroom!

We are reading books by Bill Cosby in honor of African American History month. The Little Bill series is very cute and usually teaches a lesson in the story. The kids are really enjoying it!
We are continuing to work on sight words. The final sight words test will be in middle March. Please keep working on your child's list at home.
In language arts we are continuing to write daily. The children are getting to be much better writers as they are approaching third grade. In grammar we are working on pronouns (I, you, me, we, us, etc.).
In math we are continuing to focus on addition facts with the Minute Math program. We only have about 15 weeks until the end of school, so please continue to work with your child at home on memorizing his/her facts.
We have been working on time, counting back change from $1.00, and problem solving in math. We have started on our geometry unit as well. From there, we will be moving on to fractions, measurement, and multiplication.
In science we have been talking about space, changing seasons and day and night. The children visited the planetarium last month and have enjoyed several Magic School Bus videos on outer space.
In social studies we have been working on our Georgia History unit. For the month of February, we have been studying famous African Americans. We have talked about Louis Armstrong, Martin Luther King, Jr., WEB DuBois, Bill Cosby, Marian Anderson, and Daniel Hale Williams to name a few!
The magnet program at Hannan is currently enrolling for the 2008-2009 school year. If you, or someone you know, is interested in our magnet program, please call the school at 706-748-2744.
Remember to qualify for the magnet program a student must have test scores in the 80th percentile on a cognitive abilities test (IQ) AND an achievement test. He/she must also maintain an A-B average on his/her report card or score in the 80th percentile or above on the Torrence Test of Creative Thinking.
