Welcome letter that explains the class rules and procedures:

Welcome to the fourth grade! I have been very excited about meeting everyone, students and parents! The fourth grade is a very important year because we will be preparing not only for the fourth grade CRCT but also the fifth grade CRCT. Once you reach the fifth grade you must be able to pass both the reading and math sections and it is my job to help prepare you. In the fourth grade we will practice various reading strategies that will help during the hectic testing times. We will move beyond the basic multiplication facts and study division more in-depth. We will also study the early Native Americans, the Civil War, ecosystems, our solar system, and so much more. Obviously, we have a busy year ahead of us! If this sounds like a lot, there is no need to worry, I will be by your side every step of the way. I truly feel that teamwork and communication are key to every successful classroom.

I have very high standards for my students. I believe that they should always complete their best work and treat others with respect. I enjoy having a good time and playing games. I feel that games are often the best way to learn a new concept. However, work will always come first in my class.

I would like to thank you in advance for your assistance in managing your child’s classroom behavior. There will always be a consequence if a class/school rule is broken and you will be informed if something happens. Our main source of communication will be your child’s behavior chart and a red folder. The red folder will have two pockets, each with a label. One label will say “Keep at Home” and the other will say “Return to School.” This red folder will be coming home every night and needs to be returned every day. Please make sure that you check inside for any notes from me or the school. In return, I will check for any notes from home every morning when the students arrive.

Every Wednesday, graded papers will be sent home. Anything with a grade lower than a 70 must be signed and returned the next day (Thursday). I want to make sure that you are aware of your child’s progress/grades.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year! I am truly excited about getting to know each and every one of you! If there are ever any questions, please don’t hesitate to send a note or email me.

Sincerely, Mrs. Katie Preston
