Homework Students will be working on Accelerated Math at home. This will not be every night. It will be about 2-3 nights per week until the end of the year.
Notes must be studied every night!! Don't forget you can access homework help online. The website is go.hrw.com. There is a link to the left. A few of my students have already used the website. It is very helpful. Check it out! |
What are the 6th graders learning? We are now on Chapter 9, Geometry and Measurement. In this chapter, your child will learn some of the fundamentals of plane geometry. This includes learning how to describe various figures in geometric terms, measure angles, and solve problems involving measurements of angles and lines. It also involves learning about polygon relationships. The information in this chapter can be applied to careers in aviation, navigation, design, and many others. The building blocks of geometry are points, lines, and planes. Georgia Standards For Chapter 9
1. M6A1 Students will understand the concept of ratio and use it to represent quantative relationships.

Accelerated Math Accelerated Math is back up and running. I am so excited!!! GOAL for 4th NINE WEEKS is 30 objectives mastered for my regular math class and 40 objectives mastered for my advanced class.
Accelerated Math is a computer program that generates personalized math assignments at each student's level, then scores them automatically. Students are expected to work on accelerated math consistently throughout the nine weeks so that they can reach their goal. Students will be given class time (minimal) during the week to work on accelerated math, but they will mainly complete the assignments at home. If your child does not complete an exercise at home or requires an assignment to be reprinted, they will lose 5 points each time off of their Accelerated Math Homework grade. If your child accumulates 3 instances of not completing homework or needing an assignment reprinted, they will be assigned Academic Detention where they will work on Accelerated Math after school. |
Helpful Tips for Parents ** PLAN AND ORGANIZE. Mark a calendar with the due date for a special project, report or test. Help your child break the task into manageable parts and mark a completion date on the calendar for each task. Praise progress as your child counts down to completion. ** SHARE PLANS. At regular family meetings, be a role model by talking about your plans, how you will get everything accomplished and meet your deadlines for the week. Help your child plan for extracurricular activities and family commitments that interrupt study schedules. ** ENCOURAGE QUESTIONS. Curiosity is nature's sign of a motivation to learn. To keep interest high, answer your child's questions and encourage more. ** Many children need assistance in organizing and maintaining a notebook. Help them develop a system for organizing and maintaining notebook and notes. Student notebooks are an invaluable record of successful strategies and reflective summaries. This is a crucial part of your child's mathematical education, and an important aid to parents and guardians as well. ** Help your children develop a system for taking meaningful notes. Frequently, note taking is taught during class, so it may just be a matter of seeing if your children are taking and using notes. ** Encourage and expect children to get work done on time, to stay caught up, to get help in a timely manner, and to correct errors in work. You may want to help children go over incorrect or incomplete work and talk about how the work could be improved. ** It is generally expected that middle school students know the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts as well as whole number computation. If your children are not proficient with these skills, help them master the needed skills.
