  • Welcome to our first grade class! Please remember to send make sure your child has their tools for school every day!
  • Please read "The Knee High Man" and "Sack of Trouble" every night. There will be comprehension tests at the end of the week. Return the reading book everyday for the students to use during their lessons! This is one of their tools for school.
  • We are learning about fact families in math.
  • Please practice your math facts every night. We will have a 2 minute test on Friday over the math facts +0-4.
  • We are learning about famous historical figures and folktales in social studies.
  • Please make sure you do spelling homework with your child every night, there is a sheet on the back cover of the folder with more information. There will be a test on Friday.
  • Thank you for all of your support and help! We are so blessed to have a wonderful class and such terrific parents!
  • Remember to wear your uniform everyday!
  • Remember to sign the conduct sheet every night!
  • Please make sure your child comes to school in tennis shoes on Mondays and Wednesdays for PE. They will not be able to participate if they do not have on tennis shoes. You can send them in their bookbag for them to change in to.
 
Homework 
Newsletters will be given out on Mondays. All homework should be turned in by Fridays in the homework folder. Homework folders should be sent to school every day with the conduct portion signed.I will take up homework throughout the week when I see that it is completed. If a student does not turn in all of their assignments by Friday they will get a zero in conduct on Friday. Thanks!
    Monday-Thursday
  • Read at least 15 minutes with your child everynight. I will send home two books each week. Books will go out on Monday and should be returned on Friday. The children will bring home their reading book everyday. Reading books must be returned EVERYDAY so that students can complete their classwork. If they do not return their reading books everyday or their leveled books by Friday, their star will be automatically moved to zero for the day.

 Spelling Word Homework

From the spelling word activity list below, choose one activity each night. All four activities are due by Friday.
    Spelling Word Homework Choices
  1. Rainbow words: Trace the words with 3 different colors of crayons.
  2. Write the words in ABC order.
  3. Write a story using at least 4 of the words.
  4. Write the words in marker.
  5. Write the words and draw the shape around the word.
  6. Make flashcards for the words, say the words and spell the words.
  7. Write a sentence with 5 of the words.

 Weekly Communication

  • Homework Folders: Each week I will send home a newsletter. I will take up all homework on Fridays. I will include any class news and an update on the activities and lessons we have going on. There will also be a conduct sheet in the homework folder with the students daily conduct grade.Please sign and return this sheet in the homework folder every day.
  • Communicators: Every week a Communicator sheet will be sent home with your child's work. All students' work, notes from school, etc. for the week will be sent home on Mondays in the homework folder. Please review and remove your child's work, sign the Communicator sheet and send it back on Tuesday

Discipline Procedures


Students will start off every day on a 20. Students will lose 5 points accordingly by breaking the rules. If a child does not return signed notes, homework, or proper materials, they will automatically move their star to zero for the day. We are a leadership academy and we are trying to teach our students to be proactive leaders and be responsible for their things and actions. If the offense is deemed to be severe, I have the discretion to deduct multiple points.
    Class Rules:
  1. Listen carefully.
  2. Follow directions.
  3. Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working.
  4. Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions.
  5. Respect school and personal property.
  6. Work and play safely.
  7. Be quiet in the hallways.
      Rewards/Consequences:
    1. 20 points - reward
    2. 15 points - lose 10 minutes of recess
    3. 10 points - lose 15 minutes of recess
    4. 5 points - note to parent
    5. 0 points - phone call to parent.
