-Minutes of the 8/19/05 Board/General/Elections meeting approved as written.
Principal's Report
Mr. Norm Barchi, Interim Principal, introduced himself to the Board and shared his background. Principal Barchi stated the permanent principal could be named as early as October. He praised the large turnout at the PTA meeting and invited Board members to come to him with any questions. He also stated he plans to be visible throughout school so students would not think of him as an Interim Principal. Enrollment is around 1140 students, roughly the same as last year.
The Board asked Principal Barchi about dress code enforcement. He responded that dress code should begin at home and will be strongly enforced at school. When asked about discipline, he stated he puts up with no nonsense but will discipline from "the heart". He will let students know it is their actions not them that he disapproves of.
Sue Derene asked about the new math curriculum changes and if teachers are properly trained. Principal Barchi did not have this information, as he is too new to school but advised Sue to speak with Mr. Johnson and Ms. Caty.
Treasurer's Report
Joyce Byrd introduced as new Treasurer. Donna Kiezer is helping Joyce with the transition. Lisa reviewed the budget with the Board, noting the following:
Carry over from last year $5,542.35.
Proposed Student Enrichment is lower this year, as the Clinic no longer needs support.
Proposed 8th Grade Dance is higher as PTA will pay entire amount this year.
Proposed Career Days is less as PTA will no longer provide food to students since lunch is right after program.
Kathy Christman asked if parents pay any expense of the 8th Grade Dance. Sally Caudle explained that they donate needed items, no admission is charges so that all may attend. Sally reviewed what expenses are involved in the dance.
Sue Pike moved to approve the proposed budget, motion was seconded and budget approved by board. The budget will have final approval at the General PTA meeting in September.
Legislative Update- Sue Derene reporting.
Old Milton is now known as the Milton Center, the New Milton is known as Milton High School. Sue will no longer be sending mass email legislative updates. These can be found at fultonschools.org. Any important action etc. will be forwarded to the Board.
Legislative concerns to look for this year:
SPLOST III won't be voted on until 2007, but look for discussion. Under this SPLOST a new elementary school will be built (possibly up Birmingham Rd.), another high school in the North View area and help in Sandy Springs. Sandy Springs is feeling tremendous growth, but is also landlocked.
Sue Derene and Sally Hildebrant are the LSAC Chairs for the Milton Cluster. Any questions or concerns can be taken directly to them. Both have been serving on the traffic committee for our area. Traffic lights at Freemanville/Mayfield and School Access Roads will be operational by 8/15/05. Speed bumps have been installed on School Access Rd. and there will be no parking allowed along it. All students riding with "Milton siblings" must be dropped off in NMS carpool line-no students will be allowed to cross from Milton by foot. Both Milton and NMS will have Resource Officers on duty. There will be a 30-day grace period where all traffic violations will receive warnings. Northwestern parents planning to pick up students after school must park and wait in the parking lot. Cars will not be released until after the 1st load buses have gone.
School start/end times: Milton 8:20am-3: 20pm
Northwestern 8:45am-3: 45pm
Two buses will carry both Milton and Northwestern students home together.

-Information Day- Susan Haden/Laura Dean reporting.
Information Day is Wednesday 8/10/05 1-6pm. Anyone volunteering may come at 12:30pm to get schedules and meet teachers. All should enter at Gym. Those with tables may set up any time on Wednesday. Laura reviewed with the Board which committees needed tables.

-The Staff Welcome Back Breakfast is this Friday the 12th at 8:30am. Anyone wishing to help is welcome.
-Renaissance- Ann Hoover reporting.
The first Renaissance will be September 1st. The committee is considering gift certificates instead of "deal" cards as the cards were not used very much last year. The committee is also considering volunteers dressed in period clothing for the final Renaissance. Lisa explained the Renaissance incentive program for new Board members. Ann will have a volunteer sign up table at Information Day.
-Bonnie reminded the Board that all must be PTA members and that PTA would have no other fundraiser if the budget could be met with enrichment funds.
