From the Teacher....

Please remember each Monday your child will be bringing home weekly sight words and addition facts flash cards to study and practice each night. Also your child will have a book to read and book report to complete by Friday, please spend a few minutes each night reviewing sight words, addition facts and reading with your child. Welcome to Ms. Willis' First Grade News !
The Muscogee County School District and Hannan Academy are comitted to providing educational experiences that will enable each strudent to become a life long learner, enter the work force with necessary skills and achieve academic and personal potential!

HELP THE HAWKS!!!
Be sure to join PTA to show your school support!
BOX TOPS FOR KIDS
These can be found on many household items, just cut them out and send them in to give 10 cents back to the school, you may send them in an envelope or a ziplock bag.
CELL PHONES AND INK CARTRIDGES
These will be turned in to Mrs. Hustick, our technology teacher for recycling and to help purchase items for our school. The cell phones do not have to be working and you do not need any of the extras, such as chargers, covers,etc.
HANNAN NIGHT AT STEVIE B'S
Once a month, Hannan pairs up with Stevie B's PIZZA to help raise money for the school! By eating at Stevie B's that night and telling them you are from Hannan, we get 10% of the profits from that night. The class with the highest participation wins a PIZZA PARTY! If the children wear their sticker from school to Stevie B's they get 2 free game tokens. You will be getting a flyer reminding you about school fundraisers each month.

1st GRADE SUPPLY LIST
1 plastic supply box
1 clipboard
1 pair of blunt-tip scissors
1 box of 24 crayons(please do not send larger boxes)
1 box of Classic Color Markers
4 large glue sticks
2 packs of #2 pencils(NO mechanical pencils please)
2 rolls of paper towels
2 boxes of kleenex tissue
2 bottles of hand sanitizer(Not individual size)
2 bottles of hand soap
1 box of bandaids
1 pack of dry erase markers
1 folder with pockets (any color)
1 plastic 3-prong folder with pockets (any color)
1 box of sandwich-sized ZIPLOC baggies
1 box of gallon-sized ZIPLOC baggies
* For Spanish Class - 1 ORANGE 3-prong folder with pockets(please add paper)

UNITED IN UNIFORMS
This year Hannan students wearing their school uniforms every Monday through Thursday will receive special recognition each week on our morning broadcast and in their classroom newsletter. We are looking for Hawks wearing their navy or white shirts with khaki bottms. Remember Friday students may wear jeans and a Hannan T-shirt!

A Day in First Grade ....

7:30 Students may enter the building and report to the cafeteria for breakfast or to the 1st grade hall.
7:45 Students enter their classrooms.
8:00 School begins! Students will be marked TARDY after this time and must report to the office for an excuse to class.
8:00 to 8:45 Morning announcements, Morning Message and Class Meeting
8:45 to 11:00 Literacy Block
11:05 to 11:35 LUNCH
11:35 to 1:00 Mathematics Block
1:00 to 1:30 RECESS
1:30 to 2:15 Science/Social Studies
2:25 Dismissal

HOMEWORK!
Homework will consist of reading nightly and recording information on your child's Reading Log as well as practicing sight words/spelling flash cards and math facts that will be sent home in your child's folder each night. The children pack their books and may choose what to read each night.PLEASE REMIND YOUR CHILD TO DO HIS/HER HOMEWORK EACH NIGHT!!!
