Project Linus

Project Linus began in 1995 as the brainchild of Karen Loucks, who saw an article in a magazine about a little girl who was comforted through her chemotherapy treatment by her blanket. Karen and some of her friends began making blankets and donating them to children at the local cancer care center. Since then, Project Linus has given blankets to children worldwide in a variety of stressful situations. Our name is taken from the Peanuts character who is never without a blanket of his own. Project Linus is 100% volunteer except for some clerical help in the national office.

Project Linus Sew Day!

Colonial Quilts will be hosting yet another Blanket day in Febuary. Please come and join us at our next "play day". All sewers and non-sewers are welcome. Please bring a sewing machine if you can and general sewing supplies (pins, scissors, etc). If you are a knitter or crocheter come join our event! Meanwhile there's Wednesday Blanket Workdays, every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Wonderful Wednesday Group always has kits available for you to sew and would love for you to come sew for Project Linus. (Please call the day before to let us know your coming)...OR drop by and pick up a kit (or 2) to work on at home and return the quilt to CQ when you're finished. It's as easy as smiling!

Where have all the Quilts Gone?

Because of your help quilts have been delivered to Richmond Hill, Effingham, Bloomindale, Pooler, and Garden City Police Departments. Many have been delivered to the Fallen Soldier Program, Memorial NICU, Greenbriar Children's Home, Liberty County DFCS, Gabriel's House, Hope House, St. Mary's Home, Backus Children's Hospital, Tri-County Protective Agencies, Red Cross, and Inter-Faith Hospitality Network have also recieved our quilts for children in need. Our most recent contributions have been to the Full Circle Children's Grief Camp and the Ga Burn Camp held in North GA. We have also made several private donations to area children.

What are we looking for in a blanket?

All blankets must be clean and well made. The chapter asks that you use sturdy, new fabrics (cotton works well)or yarns. Big or small we'll take 'em all. Blankets are donated to children ages infant to eighteen who are currently in stressful situations. The children may have lost their home in a fire, be in foster care, or have a congenital health problem. The blankets can have any theme or color the blankateer wants to use. Thanks in advance for all the wonderful blankets the children will receive.

Greater Savannah Chapter Welcomes New Coordinator
Carole Wood of Colonial Quilts is taking over the Greater Savannah Chapter. She will be assisted by Judy King. Amanda, our previous coordinator will still be involved with the chapter, but needed a slightly less active role. We know that Carole will do a great job as she has been slowly doing more and more for Project Linus already. Please bear with us as we transition. Thanks, welcome and BIG KUDOS to Carole!!!
  The Latest Update
The last playdate on Nov. 14th saw 31 blankets finished. We also had a dozen donated by Friends of the Library in Richmond Hill. Thank you to those RH blanketeers. The latest donations went to Greenbriar Children's Home, the downtown fire station, and St Mary's Home. More deliveries are upcoming after Thanksgiving. Thanks go out to all of you that donate materials, money and especially your time and love.

How You Can Contribute

The Greater Savannah Chapter is always looking for more blanketeers. Blankets need to be handmade, clean and can come in any style, shape, or color. Our chapter accepts monetary donations as well as new, clean material (preferably cotton), yarn, batting, and all other blanket materials. Besides private distributions, we have placed blankets with several local agencies such as Memorial Hospital, fire and police stations, and Greenbriar Children's Home. You can drop donations and blankets at Wild Fibre Yarns (downtown Sav.), Colonial Quilts (southside Sav),or Richmond Hill Animal Hospital. If you have any questions contact Carole Wood at 925-0055.
