This is our Website for the Week of January 12-16, 2009

The Muscogee County School District and Hannan Academy are committed to providing educational experiences that will enable a student to become a lifelong learner, enter the work force with necessary skills and achieve academic and personal potential.

Happy New Year!

We are now officially in the second half of our school year! In class this week , we are studying rocks and soils in science. In math, we are continuing our work on time words (morning, afternoon, evening and telling time to the correct hour on both an analog and a digital clock)and learning positional words (above, below, beside next, first, last, in front of and behind).

All homework, class news, and assignments are posted on this site. Please remember that all students are asked to wear uniforms this year!! Students should wear khaki bottoms and a navy or white collared shirt. Students are allowed to wear jeans and Hannan T-shirts on Fridays.

THANK YOU TO THE FOLLOWING STUDENTS WHO WORE THEIR UNIFORMS THE ENTIRE WEEK OF
JANUARY 5TH-9TH!

Newsletter/Homework
Newsletter/Homework sheets will be given out on Mondays (or Tuesdays if there is no school on Monday of that week). Homework folders should be returned to school every day with the Conduct Log signed. We greatly appreciate your assistance! Thank you for being so conscientious!

You will note that the Conduct Logs now contain a place to indicate if the student wore a uniform that day. Special recognition will be given to students if they have worn their uniforms all week and again at the end of the 9-weeks grading period.

The Homework this week will consist of:

Monday-Thursday

1. Read nightly with your child! (5 minutes)Please return the take home books in their envelope on Friday!

2. Please work on the sight words, chunk, and letter sounds. Don't forget to practice capital/lower case letter recognition and numeral recognition.

Beginning Letter Sound: "p""

Sight Words: have, do, orange

Sight Word Books: Some Have and Winter Time

Chunk: -ox We will be creating and reading words that contain the letters -ox.

Here are some suggestions for practicing Sight Words:

1. Rainbow words: Trace the words with 3 different colors of crayons.

2. Clap and chant the letters out loud for each word.

3. Write the words in the bathtub with shaving cream.

4. Write the words in marker.

5.“Air” draw the words to an adult. Write them on mom or dad’s back and have them guess (or vice versa). Have them say the letters as they write.

6. An adult makes flashcards for the words and flashes the word to the child. The child has to say the word, then spell it.

Discipline Procedures
Hannan has a schoolwide discipline plan that is very beneficial to the students. Students know that no matter what class, teacher, grade, they will have to abide by the same rules. Students start off each day with 20 points for their conduct grade. Students can lose points accordingly by breaking the rules. Please see the student handbook in the school calendar for more details.

Students will move a car with their name to the locations on the Discipline Stop Light when points are lost.

Following are the consequences of losing points.

Parking Lot – No points lost.

Road to Green Light – One point has been lost.

Green Light - Two points have been lost. Student will lose 5 minutes of recess.

Road to Yellow Light – Three points have been lost. Student will lose 10 minutes of recess.

Yellow Light- Four Points have been lost. Students will lose 10 minutes of recess. A note will go home.

Red Light—Five points have been lost. Students will lose 15 minutes of recess, write an Action Plan, and a note will go home. A parent conference or phone call may be scheduled at this point level.

Remember, students will bring home a Behavior Folder every day. Please sign and return the Behavior Sheet every day!!
