Northwest Atlanta Chapter
|Security blankets for children... |
They say the one inexhaustible natural resource is love. This theory is certainly being proven by Project Linus volunteers who lovingly make hand-made blankets for sick and frightened children. In January 2000, LM Aero employee Sandy Koch read an article about the charity and soon afterward, coworker Marleen Manley asked company management to sponsor a chapter. The team soon extended beyond the company...to their family and friends and caring individuals and organizations in Cobb County and beyond.
First, to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need. Project Linus does this through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers”.
Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.
Project Linus has donated more than six million blankets since it was created in 1995 and the NW Atlanta Chapter has donated over 38,000 as of March 2017. If you would like to become a Project Linus Blanketeer, please go to our section on blanket guidelines to review requirements before you begin. We work closely with local hospitals and shelters and through the years we have streamlined our requirements to meet their needs as best we can.
One person really can make a difference. Each blanket made will go to a very deserving child to provide warmth, comfort and security. In some instances, this may be the only new, handmade blanket the child will ever have.
