Tips for Parents: How to Write a Student Report


    1. Research the topic as much as possible before beginning the task.
    2. Write an outline of the basic information from the topic. Make sure you organize the information by numbering the content in order of importance.
    3.Next, an introduction must be written to let the reader know what topic will be discussed. The introduction should include the basic concepts that will be discussed in the report .
    4. After the introduction is written, the body of the report should be completed which should include about two paragraphs to support each idea introduced in the introductory paragraph.
    5. Finally, a closing paragraph should be written for the report. In the closing, all ideas or concepts should be restated. The student should always indicate why the information in the report was important. Remember to read the report again checking it for grammar or punctuation errors and any other mistakes. Feel happy about how the report is written.

Dear Parents,

The students in class have been reading Accelerated reader books and taking comprehension tests about their books on the computer. Please continue to encourage your children to read more accelerated reader books and take Accelerated reader tests. In addition, each student should be rereading their book at least three times unless it is a chapter book. Students should read carefully and not rush through reading the book so that they can take a test. Allow your child to choose books from the public library, as well as books from your home.

During this school year, your participation in your child's reading development will be very important. In fourth grade, every child will be working toward becoming fluent readers. I would like to offer some tips for you to utilize as you are involved in your child's reading. First, look at the cover of the book. Ask your child to tell you what he or she thinks the story is about. Next, encourage your child to use expression while reading the story. Children should change their voice as they read the dialogue of different characters. In regard to comprehension, ask your child questions during the story, such as Why?, How do you know.....?, What do you think will happen next?. What might happen if...?,etc. This will let you know if your child is understanding the story. Finally, after your child has read the story, try one of the following: have your child draw a picture and write about his or her favorite part or character, have your child retell the story, read the story again for fluency if it is not a chapter book, take your child to the library or suggest that your child select another book from the media center by the same author, and have your child write a similar book. Staple paper together for your child to write his or her story. These tips can be very useful as your child develops their reading, writing, and listening skills. Most importantly, these activities will be fun to do with your children.

For the Week of February 6th-10th

Monday-Read your accelerated reader book for at least twenty-five minutes. Complete one spelling tic-tac-toe activity.

Tuesday- Read your accelerated reader book for at least twenty-five minutes. Complete one spelling tic-tac-toe activity. Define the vocabulary words.

Wednesday-Reread the story, Just A Dream. Complete one spelling tic-tac-toe activity.

Thursday-Reread the story, Just a Dream. Review your spelling and vocabulary words.

Friday- Read for at least twenty-five minutes each day.

 
Vocabulary Word of the Week

The vocabulary word of the week will be a new feature on my website this school year. First, as a parent, there are many different ways you can expand your child's vocabulary. Please reinforce the word of the week with your child. The word of the week might be Social Studies, Math, Science, or even CRCT related. The word of the week has more impact if the word is used at least nine times in a week. For, example, next week I would like for my students to illustrate the word of the week, use the word of the week in a sentence, define the word or write a synonym for the vocabulary word.

 
 
Vocabulary Word for the Week of January 30th- February 3rd

Simple Machine
In Math, the students will compare the rhombus to other quadrilaterals. Finally, students will be asked to draw an example of a rhombus in their own design.
