Sunny's First Days Hi, it's me, Rachel here, and I'm here to tell you about Sunny's first days. Well, it was a Sunday, and I was nine years old. I was on my way to Albany, Georgia, on my way to get my future puppy. I was looking out the window in my mom's Honda Odyssey, thinking of names for my little pup. I was having a really hard time thinking about it, so we turned into the closest McDonald's we could find for an ice cream sundae. As I was thinking, I thought of the perfect middle name for my pup-to-be. It was Sundae, because 1 I was eating an ice cream sundae, and 2 it was Sunday. So, at least that solved that problem. Now, I had to think of what I would call him. I figured that I should give him a name, but call him a nick-name. I don't know why, but I just did. I did have a song stuck in my head; it was "You Are My Sunshine". I loved the song, so I considered Sunshine as a name for the pup. I told my mom and she thought it was a great name, and that I should shorten it for a nick-name to Sunny. I was thinking about it, thinking that wasn't a half-bad idea. So, we got to Albany, with me excited about getting a new puppy. As I walked in, I saw a room full of Border Collie puppies, running around in an old-fashioned, but big, laundry room. I was holding all the puppies, one by one, when I noticed a smaller puppy in the corner. He was staring at the washing machine, with scared puppy eyes, so I put down the puppy in my hands and went towards the scared little pup. I picked him up with a smile, and he looked at me with trusting eyes. I knew he was the one, so I took him to my mom and dad. I compared him to the rest of his brothers, and he looked different. He was all white with a black face, and his brothers were all black with white splotches. I didn't really care though, because he would be my unique little puppy, and I loved him SOOOO much already. So when they asked me what I would name him, I thought, reconsidering the name Sunshine, and said, "My puppy's name will be Sunshine Sundae Fernandez." And so that was that, his name was officially Sunshine Sundae Fernandez. When we got home, my little Sunshine went straight into the living room, and since he was a puppy, and he wasn't potty-trained, he peed right in front of the TV. Since I was his new mommy, I had to clean it up, which was not very fun. But I knew I had to do stuff like that, being a mommy and everything. So, I went to bed because it was very very late. The next morning, Sunny woke me up very early, because apparently, he wanted to play. So, I got up, got an old pajama that didn't fit me anymore, and started to play tug-o-war. It was so much fun, especially for him, because since he was so small, I lifted him up and swung him around like a little feather. Finally, I stopped swinging him because I had to feed him and give him water. I let him out so he could learn to pee outside. While he was out there, I noticed that we didn't have any dogfood, so I gave him ham and sausage and leftovers from yesterday. Sunny loved everything I gave him, except I got in trouble for giving him leftovers. So, as you can see, Sunny turned from a cute, shy little scared eyed puppy to a handsome, confident, big brave dog. I love him either way, because he's my dog, and he's everything I could ask for. |
