Fifth Grade

Fifth grade students are learning about lines...contour, gesture, calligraphy and sketching. They are also studying about Wang Yani, an ART prodogy from China, and how to apply her techniques in creating a flowing fantasy of lines. This includes learning how to use ink with water,(watered down black tempera paints), soft brushes, (which allows thin strokes to wide strokes) and calligraphy, using strokes with soft brushes and felt tip calligraphy pens.

Fourth Grade
Fourth graders are studying Patricia Polacco, an author and illustrator. She is a model for students to learn about lines and colors using pencils, markers, and pencils on the final project.

  Third Grade
Third graders are creating pictures featuring the country India. We are studying descriptive, directional and expressive lines along with patterns. We are using implied and real textures, constrasting colors, and mixed media with crayons and tempera paint concluding with a crayola resist.

Second Grade
Second graders are creating a collage flower garden by studying warm and cool colors. We have also been learning from the artist, Georgia OKeefee. We are using a mixed media with tissue paper, construction paper, glue-glaze water, and water paints.

  First Grade
We have been working on mixing literacy with art and creating our own interpretation of WILD THINGS from Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are. In our creations, we used oil pastels and even created our own frames. Lines and implied textures were our Element of Art focus.

Kindergarten
In Kindergarten Art and Music classes, we have been focusing on lines and patterns from the story, ELMER. As each student has learned how important it is to be oneself, every student designed their own unique elephant for our Elmer's Day Parade. The parade will be performed down the halls of Hannan Academy during the second week of October. Collaborating teachers are Mrs. Mendy Maynard, Music director of Hannan Academy and Ms Bobbie Weldon, Art Teacher of Hannan Academy.
