Dear PTO Volunteers, The PTO Executive Board values your enthusiasm to lend assistance! We are currently interested in finding any PTO parents who would love to recruit new Business Partners within our community for Westmont Elementary. The only requirement we have is that those who volunteer will have a passion for, and be very comfortable in recruiting business partners. Any request letters on the Westmont letterhead and of course our non-profit tax identification number will be supplied as needed. Please respond via email if you are interested, and we will be contacting you soon! Thank you for your support of Westmont Elementary! |

Minutes from the Executive Board Meeting September 11, 2009 Jenni McIntire called the meeting to order. Items discussed: Jenni reported that PTO has $37,540.31 in the bank account. The Spirit T-shirts have been ordered, and should arrive in 2 to 4 weeks. The shirts will be sent home with the students when they arrive. 143 memberships to PTO were received during the Membership Drive this year. (By the way, it’s not too late to join for the school year!) The winning teachers of the Membership Drive are: $100 – Mrs. Wilson; $75 – Mrs. Morrison; and $50 – Mrs. Meador. These money amounts will be placed in each teacher’s classroom spending account. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks for joining PTO! Westmont sold $11,893 in catalog orders for the Sally Foster Fundraiser, and approximately $1,700 in on-line orders. Westmont will receive approximately 50% of these sales. Thanks for your orders, and the board is looking forward to the Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough Fundraiser at the end of October. The board discussed different ways of promoting the business partners of Westmont beyond the website and the outside school sign. The board agreed to pursue other ideas in the future. Mrs. Angela Bumgardner is willing to become a business partner recruiter for Westmont, and Mrs. Flowers agreed to get the necessary information to her. Possible candidates to replace out-going Vice President Dana Rawlins were discussed. If anyone is interested in serving in this capacity on the executive board, please see one of the board members, or contact the board by email via the PTO website that is linked on Westmont’s home page. Toward the end of last school year, the board discussed the possibility of recycling the juice pouches that the students drink at the school. Mrs. Deborah Steele researched the possibility for the board. If Westmont collects the pouches, ensures that they are empty and free of straws and straw wrappers, and ships them in the postage-paid envelopes provided by the recycling company Terracycle, the school will receive 2¢ per pouch. The board decided to consider how to implement this program in the future. In addition to recycling juice pouches, the board discussed pursuing different avenues to recycle ink cartridges. The present program employed requires quite a bit of work to receive just a small amount of money. The board would like to make the recycled ink cartridges bring in a better return for Westmont. The executive board looked into the pricing of new playground equipment toward the end of last school year to replace the wooden castle that was removed from one of the playgrounds. The board was pleasantly surprised to find an excellent piece of equipment that will cost the school approximately $19,000 or possibly less. Mrs. Flowers must make some important inquiries before the board can proceed, so the board decided to wait until a later date to make a decision on the playground equipment. Mrs. Flowers reported that the new curtains for the stage in the cafeteria have been ordered, and will arrive some time in September. The board had previously approved the purchase of the curtains at the approximate price of $5, 500. Westmont has nine new faculty and staff members this year. They are: 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Mullis; 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Truitt; Resource teacher, Mr. Smith; Horizons teacher, Ms. Smith; ESOL teacher, Mrs. Biancheri; Para-pro, Ms. Baura; Para-pro, Ms. Starnes; TSS, Mr. Freeman and Nurse, Mrs. Kitchings. PTO would like to welcome these wonderful people to our school family. Kris Finlay asked about the possibility of purchasing a new electronic sign for the front of the school. By placing a new sign out front, it would update the look of the school. The sign could also be controlled by computer – either at the base of the sign, or within the school office. Mrs. Flowers stated that it would be a good idea to pursue, but she wanted the board to know that electronic signs cost approximately $20,000. She encouraged the board to consider making that a goal for the PTO to work toward. The board agreed. The meeting was adjourned by Dana Rawlins. |
Box Tops and Ink Cartridges Corner I have completed going through all of the ink cartridges that were donated last school year. We will receive just over $30 - $30.55 to be exact if my calculations are right and they accept everything I mail in. On another note, the last shipment of Box Tops, mailed last week, will get us an additional $423.30. That puts our total for the year at $1,341.80. I’m posting our goal for the 2009-10 year at $1,600. Let’s work together to reach it! Thanks to all of you for your support throughout the year. I really appreciate it!
