 March Executive Board Minutes
 Westmont Elementary School PTO
Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting
March 17, 2011
President Kris Finlay called the meeting to order and the following items were discussed:
Kris introduced Kristen Bowers as the board’s new vice president.
Treasurer Shannon Jones noted that PTO account has a balance of $16,739.06. Monies collected from the CCI coupon book fund raiser produced a profit of $2,878 for the school. An additional $386.50 has been earned from the spirit nights at Stevie B’s.
The board discussed entertaining the idea of entering into a spirit night with Chick-fil-A for the 2011-12 school year.
Kris explained to the board the dilemma of replacing the tires under the see-saws on the lower-grades playground. The tires have been the constant victims of vandalism, having been pulled out of the ground on numerous occasions. Mrs. Flowers has asked the board to come up with an alternative to the tires, which are not supposed to be used on playgrounds in the county. Kris has made an inquiry with a representative at Southern Playgrounds Incorporated and Playworld Systems about a remedy to this situation. She is awaiting word and will report her findings back to the board, although preliminary estimates range from $1,200-$1,500 for spring-loaded “buttons.”
Secretary Deborah Steele reported that $543.10 worth of Box Tops were submitted during the Valentine’s contest. The school has earned $1,330 through the Box Tops for Education program for the school year. The board also discussed and approved awarding the class in each grade level which has submitted the most Box Tops this year with an ice cream party in May. The deadline for all Box Tops to be submitted for the year will be Friday, April 29, with the announcement the winning classes made the following week on Westy’s World.
Final plans were made for the March 25th Dinner on the Grounds. PTO will purchase 30 dozen cookies and provide drinks for the event. Deborah noted that Pepsi has graciously donated the drinks for this year’s Dinner on the Grounds, as well as the upcoming teacher appreciation luncheon and fifth grade graduation breakfast.
Noting that Pepsi Cola has requested all of our drink requests for the year, Deborah asked the board for approval to mail them a thank you note for serving as a business partner this year. On that same subject, the board discussed talking with Coca Cola in regards to their serving as a school business partner. Deborah will look into this for next year and report back to the board.
Kris Finlay adjourned the meeting.
