WESTSIDE MINISTRIES

God's mercy and truth touches many individuals through the various ministries of Westside Baptist church. God gifts each believer so that His kingdom can be advanced and the Body can be edified. The following ministries offer opportunities for believers to serve Christ and to see Him work in mighty ways.

Children/Youth Ministries

AWANA
Children, age 4- 6th grade, meet Wednesday nights 7-8:30 p.m. for Group Time, Games, Handbook Time, and Snacks. AWANA is a wholesome atmosphere for children to learn about God, memorize scripture, play fun games, and earn awards for their hard work throughout the school year.

Good News Club
Men & women from Westside meet each Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. to present a Bible Club at Martinez Elementary School. Parents give permission for their children to stay after school and be a part of the club. Volunteers are always needed to help with music, games, Bible lessons, and snacks.

Released Time for Christian Education
Release time for Christian education is a ministry whereby public school children, with parental permission, leave the school campus one hour weekly for a period of Christian education. Available in three schools in Richmond County, many teachers and teacher’s aides are needed.

Youth Ministry
Young people, 7th -12th grade, have many opportunities to fellowship with each other in God-honoring activities. Teens meet each Wednesday, 7-8:30 p.m., for games, snacks, and a Bible lesson from youth leaders. The youth group frequently participates in a nursing home ministry, monthly activities, afterglows, visitations, trips to the WILDS summer camp, & bi-annual international summer mission trips.

Encouragement /Prayer Ministries

Bereavement Ministry
The comfort of Christ is vital in the loss of a friend or a loved one. At this difficult time, Westside members can contact Linda Jones and spiritually comforting materials will be sent to the grieving family or friend.

College In-Touch Ministry
The college years are full of decisions, temptations, and spiritual battles. Keep in touch with Westside’s fine college students by sending an encouraging card or care package to one student a month. Contact Raven to be put on the rotation list.

In-Touch Ministry
In-touch members use cards or phone calls to express the compassion of Christ to special Westside friends. These include shut-ins & individuals needing God’s sustaining grace due to difficult circumstances or the loss of a family member. Contact Debby to be added to the rotation list.

Social Ministries
The Westside church family enjoys many special social events during the year, such as the Christmas Banquet, a Soup and Chili Night, Anniversary Sunday Dinner on the Grounds, and Fall Fair. Good fellowship and good food are always included! Volunteers for decorating, set-up, and clean up are greatly appreciated!

Outreach Ministries

Families for Christ Ministries
Families for Christ is an organization that oversees the following visitation ministries and outreach programs.

Visitation to Westside Shut-ins
Westside has several members that are homebound for various reasons. To avoid overlooking these dear believers, a monthly visitation list assures that our shut-ins are being visited and cared for.

Mercy Run
Twice a year, Mercy Run volunteers take clothes & food to needy areas to meet people’s physical needs. Gospel tracts are given to share how God can meet their spiritual needs.

Neighborhood Canvassing & Soul winning
Families for Christ’s mission is to reach families in the community for Christ with an invitation to church and gospel tracts. Join the efforts one Saturday a month as we offer God’s truth, the right hand of fellowship, and prayer for a great harvest!

Weekend Visitation
Saturday morning Visitation at 10:30 is an opportunity to make hospital visits to the Westside church family and meet recent church visitors. Door to door visits are made by some and anyone is welcome to join these who freely share the great news of grace and salvation with those they meet.

Nursing Home Ministry
Dr. Watke and volunteers lead a church service on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 2 p.m. The residents are always glad to share in the fellowship, snacks, singing, and preaching.

Prison Ministry Twice a month, Westside Baptist provides spiritual encouragement and the life-changing truth of God’s Word to the prisoners of Trenton Correctional Institution. The service includes singing, a flannel board story, Bible message, and wrap-up discussion session. Participants can be a part of the service, deal with prisoners who need guidance and prayer, or attend simply to show the love of Christ to broken, wounded souls. The team ministers on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month.

Rescue Mission
Westside members provide a worship service at the Augusta Rescue Mission (526 Walker St.) on the 2nd Monday of each month. This gives us an opportunity to be Christ’s hands and mouth to these men, binding up the brokenhearted, proclaiming liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound (Isaiah 61:1). Join this ministry and show the men that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace.

Tract Ministry
We ask the Lord to burden our hearts for the souls of people we come in contact with each day. Tracts are available in the church foyer for distribution as God gives opportunities.

Westside’s Sunday School ministry provides biblical teaching and fellowship for children, teens, and adults. Classes are graded from age 2 through college. Adults can choose a class based on the current topic, age group (young couples), or gender (men’s and ladies’ classes). A small group setting provides members a chance to get to know one another personally, developing rich friendships and growing in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Bible Study

Ladies Bible Study Ministries
The Ladies Bible Study has always been a special source of fellowship and spiritual encouragement for the ladies and friends of Westside Baptist Church. God has shown His faithfulness by continually giving us Bible study leaders who realize the life-changing impact of God's Word on any life it touches. The ladies are currently meeting every Friday from 11:00 to 12:15 for Bible Study on the Book of Hebrews. This study covers such topics as The Humanity of Christ, Christ's superiority to the angels, prophets and Moses and the believers position in Christ's completed work at Calvary. The practical applications of this study calls the believer to stay the course of faith maintained through steadfast focus on the purpose for which Christ created us and spurred on through our hope of heaven to come. The author of Hebrews points us to the person of Christ, Who is the author of hope, challenging us to a deeper love and devotion and gratitude because of Who He is and all He has done on our behalf.
