Mrs. Wilson's 6th Grade Math Class

Welcome to Mrs. Wilson's Math Class! You should have Mrs. Wilson's expectancies memorized and be walking in them. Also be sure that you follow the RMS & MCSD Handbooks.

This week we are reviewing Unit 3, Rational Numbers. A rational number is a number that can be written as a ratio in the form of a/b where a and b are integers, but b is not equal to zero. Rational numbers include integers, fractions, decimals, ratios, and percents. Students will use fractions, decimals and percents interchangeably; order and compare rational numbers; operate with fractions, decimals, and percents; and use ratios to compare quantities and solve problems. This week we will also be reviewing Units 1 & 2: Graphing Data and Number Theory. We will test over all three units on Thursday.

The information here is to help you keep up with what is going on in class. If you ever need me, I can be reached at the school, 706-569-3709; by email, mwilson@mcsdga.net; or you can use the contact section at the bottom of the page.

Classwork, Homework, Etc.
Classwork/Homework: Last week we worked on Presentation Boards representing old, now, and new math concepts. This will help us as we review for our test on Units 1-3 and as we prepare for future units.

Essential Question: How can knowing and understanding ratios (Rational Numbers) help us in other units like Probability, Scale Factor, and Direct Proportion?

Unit 2, Extending & Applying Number Theory

Key Standards

M6N1 Students will understand the meaning of the four arithmetic operations as related to positive rational numbers and will use these concepts to solve problems. Elements: d. Add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators. e. Multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers. f. Use fractions, decimals, and percents interchangeably. g. Solve problems involving fractions, decimals, and percents. M6A1 Students will understand the concept of ratio and use it to represent quantitative relationships. M6A2 Students will consider relationships between varying quantities. c. Use proportions (a/b = c/d) to describe relationships and solve problems, including percent problems.

Students will be using Chapters 4 & 5 in their textbooks: Fractions & Fraction Operations.

Mrs. Wilson's Expectancies

  • I attend to Mrs. Wilson’s words, and I apply myself to learning—I am quick to listen & learn more.

  • I let no corrupt communication proceed out of my mouth, but only that which is good to edifying—I do not grieve Mrs. Wilson.

  • I think on things that are good—I avoid strife.

  • I am always at the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing—I order my steps aright!

    Conduct Consequences

I will follow the school-wide policy of Teacher Intervention for Level 1 Minor Offenses such as excessive distraction of other students, being in an unauthorized location, excessive tardies, refusal to complete assignments, failure to follow instructions, littering, defacing property, unprepared for class, dress code violations (i. e. shirt out, pants sagging, etc.), and other minor offenses. The Level 1 Teacher Intervention form will be used to document offenses. My hopes are that the interventions will result in students choosing to be in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing.

The 1st through 5th offense is a warning, team meeting, parent contact, parent conference, team timeout, detention, or a combination thereof.

Offenses 6 through 14 are considered Level 2 Offenses. The 6th & 7th offense result in Saturday School. The 8th, 9th, & 10th offense result in In-School Suspension. The 11th, 12th, 13th, & 14th offense result in Out of School Suspension.

    DISCIPLINE REFERRALS

I will follow the school-wide policy for Discipline Referrals. Discipline Referrals will be used for defiance/disrespect, profane language/gestures, dress code (ID), & other referral actions.

Students will receive an immediate office referral for fighting, weapons, drugs, vandalism, & stealing.
