This week in Georgia History  This week students are taking an in depth look at the Articles of Confederation, The Georgia State Constitution of 1777, and the United States Constitution. Students will be asked to contrast and compare using a chart and also discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each document.
 
World Cultures ( 6th Grade)
World Cultures World Cultures Second Nine Weeks Assignment Sheet Week One Warm Up’s Monday, Oct. 10, 2011—The Nazi Party • Students are to explain in one paragraph what they would do if they were forced to become a member of the Nazi Party-Pages 354-356 Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011--Victory over Japan • Use page 360 in your book to describe the way that WWII ended for both Japan & the United States. What was the result of the bombings? Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011--The Cold War • Use page 361 in your book to describe the Cold War to include what this conflict was about & how this conflict affected the United States. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011--Germany Divided • Use page 362 to describe how & why Germany was divided after World War II. What happened to East & West Germany & what was built to divide them? Friday, October 14, 2011--The Cold War Ends • Read page 364 to describe how the cold war ended to include the contributions that Mikhail Gorbachev made while leading the Soviet Union. Week Two Warm Up’s Monday, Oct. 17, 2011--The End of the Cold War • Use page 364 to explain how, why, & when the Cold War ended. Name at least three things that occurred when the Cold War ended. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011--The Soviet Union splits apart • Use page 364 to describe the break-up of the Soviet Union. Who was the leader of the new country Russia and how did this help Russia? Classwork/Homework October 17, 2011--The Holocaust (Anne Frank) • You are to write a one page essay about the Anne frank movie and the Holocaust. Be detailed, also you are to draw one picture of one part of the Holocaust. (Gate, staircase, camp, trap door.)

Georgia Studies Georgia Studies Second Nine Weeks Assignment Sheet Week One Warm Up’s Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011 • Explain the contributions of Elijah Clarke to the American Revolution using pages 157 & 158. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011--The Siege of Savannah • Use page 158 to explain why Savannah was such an important city during the Revolutionary War & why the British captured the port of Savannah. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011--The Revolutionary War • Use page 163 & 164 and your notes to determine why the American Patriots won the war instead of the British Loyalists. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011--Loyalists or Patriot • Use pages 155-163 to determine whether you would have been a patriot or a loyalist during the American Revolution, explain your decision. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011--The U.S. Constitution • Use pages 174 & 175 in your textbook to describe the new constitution that the United States adopted. Give specific details about the constitution. Week Two Warm Up’s Monday, Oct. 17, 2011--Georgia’s New Constitution • Use page 175 to describe the changes that were made to the Georgia State Constitution, Explain why these changes were important? Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011--Articles of Confederation • Use your book pages 174 & 175 to describe the three branches of government that were created by our constitution. Classwork/Homework Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011—Loyalist Letter • Today you are to write a two page letter to a Loyalist supporter, Pretend that these Loyalist are your father and mother, make a case as to why they should NOT support the king. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011--Patriot Letter • On Monday you were to write a two page letter to a Patriot supporter, today hand that letter to a classmate and they are to write at least a 1 ½ page response as a Loyalist. Describe major developments following World War I: the Russian Revolution, the Treaty of Versailles, worldwide depression, and the rise of Nazism. b. Explain the impact of WWII in terms of the Holocaust, the origins of the Cold War, and the rise of Superpowers. c. Explain how the collapse of the Soviet Union led to the end of the Cold War and German reunification. SS6CG5 The student will explain the structure of modern European governments. a. Compare the parliamentary system of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (United Kingdom), the federal system of the Federal Republic of Germany (Germany), and the federation of the Russian Federation (Russia), distinguishing the form of leadership and the role of the citizen in terms of voting and personal freedoms.

Describe the role of Georgia at the Constitutional Convention of 1787; include the role of Abraham Baldwin and William Few, and reasons why Georgia ratified the new constitution. This week in World Cultures (6th Grade)
This week students are working on their World War II project and Holocaust essay. The students will also complete a project on the Cold War.
