|Welcome to Tripler Army Medical Center Fisher Houses
The Fisher House Foundation currently has donated 64 Fisher Houses throughout the continental United States as well as two in Hawaii, one in Alaska and two in Germany. We have two beautifully decorated homes located above the backside of Tripler Army Medical Center that can accommodate 19 families at any one time. We stay at 100% occupancy while maintaining a waiting list for those incoming patients & their families. Our priority is combat wounded, life or death regardless of where they come, then as their medical severity dictates. We work to accommodate as many families as possible. While we can not assist everyone we have partnered with the IHG hotel located on Tripler to assist with our overflow while they are on our waitlist, these families can receive a reduced rate. Please check with the Fisher House manager for more details and assistance. Eligibility to stay in our homes depends on the PATIENT'S enrollment in DEERS. ALL OUTPATIENTS staying at the Fisher House are REQUIRED to have a Non Medical Attendant, regardless of what you are being treated for, no exceptions. Each family will receive one room with a private bathroom. All guests are encouraged to take advantage of the rest of the house. Common areas include the living room, family room, dining room as well as a beautiful spacious kitchen, laundry room and lanai with a million dollar view.
Our front living rooms have a library that has books and movies for all ages. The family room off the kitchen is equipped with a big screen TV that has a VCR . It opens to the kitchen so that the whole family can spend time together while preparing a meal. Outside the homes we have a designated area to grill and a smoking area. At Fisher House I there is a gated playground for families to enjoy.
Each house has a dream kitchen equipped with double ovens, countertop stoves, sub-zero refrigerator, microwaves and a dishwasher. Our cabinets are well stocked with bakeware, dishes, glasses, utensils and food. Personal storage area for both cold foods and dry foods are provided for each room. Across from the kitchen is a large dining room. No food is allowed to be consumed outside of the kitchen/dining room area.
Just off the kitchen is a fully equipped laundry room. Fisher House I has one set of washer/dryer while Fisher House II has 2 sets of washer/dryer. Detergent and cleaning supplies are provided to the residents. Currently there is no costs associated with a stay at our TAMC Fisher Houses, the $10 per night charge is funded through a grant from the Fisher House Foundation.
The unique thing about these homes is that the families are not only guests, but volunteers who will be responsible for the upkeep of the home during their stay, as if it were their own home. There is no maid service or room service available.
The intent is to create a nurturing homelike atmosphere that fosters rehabilitative opportunities to reintegrate the patients and families back into their normal lifestyle as quickly as possible.
Your donations by way of volunteer hours in the home, administrative support to the home, food donations, regular household comfort items, baby items and consumable products such as cleaning supplies and paper goods are greatly needed and appreciated. Monetary donations, gift cards to local restaurants, fast food establishments, and phone cards are always appreciated.
These homes are available to any military member and their families who will taking care of the person recieving treatment to include Active Duty, National Guard, Retirees and Veterans from any branch of our Armed Forces. All Outpatients staying in the house must have a non-medical attendant over the age of 18.
Referrals to the Fisher House are generally done through a Case worker, Hospital staff, Service Liaison, the Service Member's unit. However, you can do a Self referral, just call the house manager directly to discuss your situation and to check on room availablility. You should plan to check-in during regular business hours (M-F 0800-1600).
