Logo.JPG.jpg        Welcome to the home page of the Zeta Delta Chapter of the Eta Sigma Alpha National Homeschool Honor Society. We are home school high school students on the island of Oahu. We meet monthly to discuss books on leadership and character and complete service projects once each semester.

If you are interested in joining a group of highly motivated students check out the application requirements using the link in the left hand column.

History of Eta Sigma Alpha

Eta Sigma Alpha is the first honor society established exclusively for homeschooled students. It was founded in 1999 by Joanne E. Juren, M.Ed., Executive Director of the Home Education Partnership of Texas. It has grown into a national organization with over 217 chapters in 38 states.

The Greek name Eta Sigma Alpha was chosen as follows: Eta, the Greek letter that is shaped like an "h" and Sigma, the letter for "s" were chosen for Home School;Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Thus, Eta Sigma Alpha means the "first homeschool" honor society.

Why is an Honor Society important?

Many homeschoolers have asked us why having their child in an honor society is important. Colleges and universities, as well as scholarship funds, look at achievements such as honor societies when evaluating their applicants. Homeschooled students are not eligible for membership in the National Honor Society, a well-recognized organization; therefore, Eta Sigma Alpha has stepped in to fill that void for homeschooled students.

It is their way of giving the proper recognition to deserving students.

This year will be exciting for Zeta Delta!
