The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Promotes personal and professional growth of women educators and excellence in education.





  1. 1. To unite women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship;
  2. 2.To honor women who have given or who evidence a potential for distinctive service in any field of education;
  3. To advance the professional interest and position of women in education;
  4. To initiate, endorse, and support desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interest of education and women educators;
  5. To endow scholarships and to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to women educators from other countries;
  6. To stimulate the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in appropriate programs of education;
  7. To inform the members of current economic, social, political and educational issues so that they may participate effectivly in a world society.
 
History 

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded at Austin, Texas on May 11, 1929 by Annie Webb Blanton. There are currently 16 member nations.
Upsilon State, Iowa, was organized on May 16, 1936. The 12 founders were: Nina Brown, Lucile Douglass, Nina Goltry, May Holmes, Fay Kirtland, Tacie Knease, Margaret Mann, Christine Petersen McCormick, Jessie Parker, Florence Prehm. Isabel Robinson, and Agnes Samuelson.
The Alpha chapter of Iowa was organized in Davenport at the Mississippi Hotel on Saturday, February 26, 1938. Miss May Holmes, a state founder, had charge of the organization and arrangements. Miss Nina Goltry, state president, conducted the initiation ceremony. Those initiated as charter members were Anna Carlin, Vivienne Cheek, Ruth Christianson, Rosemary Downey, Thelma Grover, Nelle Heathershaw, Grace James, M.Rae Johns, Agnes Kerrigan, Vaun Kinser, Helen Ludwig, Catherine Mahoney, Elaine Merkley, and Leona Soehren. Leona Soehren was the first president of Alpha Chapter
