The upkeep of the farm in preparation for the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club (ACMOC) really kept us busy all summer. We also found time to get the 1888 farmhouse sided before Farm Days. At this time we are still looking for wood-framed storm windows to complete this home improvement project. The board of directors decided putting siding on the house was the best way to preserve the house so that it can be enjoyed for years to come. I hope you all appreciated the new old look while you were at the show. The original food stand that was installed at the farm in the 1980’s was relocated over the summer as well. By moving that building it gave Farm Day visitors more space to eat and socialize during the show. One more project that you may have noticed was the installation of the big piston just outside of the blacksmith shop. The piston used to lay in the junk underneath the shop. Since it was unique at the farm, a pad of concrete was installed so the piston could be cleaned and displayed. It was a nice conversation piece for many during our show. A big thank you goes to all of the people who mowed and to the ladies who kept the flowers looking so good. Your efforts keep the farm and our organization working. Another thank you is also due to the ACMOC group for their part in the show this year. I know they were short in ther count of people due to the record high fuel prices. Our show, both days, may have been down in attendance as well if it hadn’t have been for all of those who came out to see the Cat display. Over all we are well pleased with the out come of our efforts with ACMOC. Together we had a great show. There are so many people to thank for making our organization thrive. I don’t want to leave anyone out. Your support is much appreciated. But there are two more organizations that I would like to acknowledge for what they did this year. The Shelby Fire Department always does one heck of a job in the food stand. We, and the many visitors each year, are grateful for all that they do. Another group who offered to do something new this year was the Shelby Depot Committee. They served a very good meal on Friday, September 9. This was a nice addition to the show. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Don’t forget the annual meeting on January 10, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Shelby Community Building. During the annual meeting we will talk about things for 2006 and we will set new goals for the farm. If any of you are interested in running for the board please call me or let one of the other board members know you are interested. I look forward to seeing all of you at the annual meeting on January 10, 2006.
