Tea Towel, Dish Towel Exchange
All of us can remember a favorite tea towel or dish towel that was used by our mothers or grandmothers - or even one that we stitched as a child. In keeping with our them of "Stitches in Time", we are planning an exchange to take place at the Annual Meeting in May.

  • You can make any kind of towel you consider to be a tea towel or dish towel. It could be waffle weave, huck, flour sack, linen or whatever fabric you choose.
  • It should be of a size that is appropriate for that kind of towel.
  • It can be stitched in any method you like (huck weaving, cross stitch, red work, applique or any other favorite).
  • It should be a towel you would like to receive.
  • It would be interesting if you would include a personal note with your piece explaining why you like that kind of towel or what memories it brings.
It is not too late to sign up since this will be an exchange like the one we've done with the Christmas ornaments. But we would like to have an idea how many would like to take part to help us in our planning.

February 16, 2012 "Hilton Stitches"
presented by Karen Rajtora

Remember string art from the 80’s? Did you enjoy using your compass and pencil in elementary school math to make lovely designs? How about your Spirograph?

Not far into my exploration of canvas stitches I discovered Hilton stitches. The stitches Jean Hilton invented and taught revolutionized canvas stitching. In February I’ll tell you about Jean and her stitching. I’ll have canvas squares for you to stitch in hand (without stretcher bars) to try out some stitches for yourself. Just bring some pearl cotton and a tapestry thread. You may discover a new passion!

March 15, 2012
"Hardanger Tips and Tricks"
Hardanger Bookmark
Carol Pederson taught this class for Heartland Region. Sheri Ekstrom from our chapter attended and will share the information with our chapter.

This will be a demonstration, hands-on program that will hopefully increase your knowledge and techniques regarding Hardanger, as well as help to show you Hardanger can be a lot easier and with better results.

A kitted bookmark will be available. Samples and sign-up sheet will be available at the February meeting.

2011-2012 Chapter Challenge Project

Our Chapter’s challenge project for 2011-2012 reflects the current emphasis on frugality and conservation. It is called The UFO Challenge. These are the rules:

  1. You can work on as many projects as you like that you already have on hand.
  2. Each project should be (1) a kit or (2) an unfinished project from a class or (3) a creative project for which you already have the materials.
  3. It may be started or not started, but it must have been purchased or acquired prior to June 1, 2011.
  4. When you have it completed, bring it to a regular meeting, and place it on a special show and share table.
  5. Stitching must be completed, but the item need not be framed or mounted.
  6. Complete a ticket as you do for a regular Show and Share project and place it in the designated basket.
At the May 2012 annual meeting, a ticket will be drawn from this basket and the winner will receive a prize.
