We do great things to provide lots of extra items for our students that the district is unable to provide. This large purchase was made possible by the generosity of our Indian Creek families during fundraiser events! Thank you!

SEPTEMBER PTO MEETING MINUTES

Indian Creek PTO meeting minutes for Monday, September 14, 2009

ATTENDEES: Rena Jensen, Susan Bohnenkamp, Carla Lansing, Lynn O’Brien, Stephanie Miller, Trudy Gormley, Kim Sleezer, Tina Monroe, Amy and Kory Tersinar, Gina Moffett, Nicole Green, Lenora Gehrls, Laura Ridgeway, Susan Geelan, Laura Kunde, Elizabeth Sites, Christi Aucutt, Mandi Gaylord Robertson, Jill Wendel, Kara Felber, Kathy Murphy, Shelly Zahradnik, Matt Siders, Robin Smith, Katherine Dorman, Jenny Lensch, Sheree Notch, and Sam Slingluff.

TREASURER'S REPORT:
Paula Stenske passed out the budget for review. She has filed with the state to get Indian Creek tax exempt status. We are waiting for the approval.

“Enjoy the City” coupon books are here. We would like to get them out to students by the end of this week or early next week. It will be a 2 week sale period and all orders will be filled at the end of the sale. If you sell 5 books you get a free one, if you sell 10 you would get a gift card. The cost of each book will be $20.

If anyone is interested in becoming the Treasurer next year, please contact Paula. She is very interested in having someone shadow her for this school year, and then they could take over next year.

TINA'S NOTES:

The district purchased projectors for each classroom, the PTO paid for ceiling mounts and installation for each projector over the summer. When we had to add another Kindergarten room we were one projector short. The Tersinar’s graciously donated the $600 for that projector was installed in the Art room, in memory of Maddeson.

TEACHER REQUEST:
Shelly Zahradnik request $110-$120 for CD players for Kindergarten. Approved.
It was discussed that the headphones used in the CD players are a little out dated and not working well. Tina had said the school will purchase new ones with the $5,000 the school received from Hy-Vee “Smiles for education”.
A future request will be coming in from Sally Reck for $200 to pay for an author visit by David Novak.
Sally Reck has got us access to a new PTO website, she offered to update for PTO or show us how to use. K’Dean Dunnwald will contact Sally.
Tina announced that Pam Harder is the new school secretary.
Tina Monroe and Gina Moffett discussed and idea for a “welcome wagon” for new families to Indian Creek. Gina will get this idea going, this will include community information (Doctors, Dentists, dance studios, sports, clubs, etc). This booklet will be put in a basket with a few small items from Indian Creek.
Carla Lansing, Kim Sleezer, and Amy and Kory Tresinar offered to head up a new playground committee. They would like to make some sub-committees to get things going (example go and ask other school and ask them what they like about their playground, what would you change, etc.) If you are interested in helping email IC-PTO@hotmail.com.

HOMECOMING PARADE: The parade is Oct. 8th beginning at 5pm. The route will begin at Indian Creek and head up 29th Ave, take a Right on 31st St, take a Right on McGowan, take a Right on 24th St, left on 29th Ave and end at Indian Creek. Christi Aucutt and Susan Bohnenkamp are planning the float. The theme for the float is “King of the Jungle”. Christi had made a lion costume that will fit a 1st grader. They are going to put all the 1st grade pride star names in a hat and draw a winner, that child could wear the costume and be the king of the float. A note will be coming home for candy donations and for a permission note to walk in the parade. Each student needs to have a responsible adult with them. At the Oct. 1st volunteer workshop we will be preparing items for the float, like painting crown adding jewels, making palm trees and making signs.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT: Scheduled for Friday, April 9th, 2010. Matt Siders and Susan Bohnenkamp offered to co-chair this event.

STAFF APPRECIATION: Carla Lansing is organizing a 5th grade sponsored staff appreciation event for September. Laura Kunde offered to chair the event.

SCRIP: Nicole Green discussed possible tax changes for Scrip, she will find out more this week and report back in October. She is also going to do a participation contest in October to get more families using SCRIP. A note will be sent home explaining the contest. SCRIP is where you buy gift cards at face value, the stores sell them to the school for a discount, and the profit goes to the school. For example, I purchase a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart through SCRIP, I will get a $100 gift back in return, Wal-Mart sells it to the school for $98. The $2 then stays at the school in the PTO account to purchase items for students. This is an easy way to donate to the school without selling a thing. If more families participated we would not have to do any other fundraising though out the school year.

BOUNDARY COMMITTEE: Lynn O’Brien wanted everyone to be aware that the school district is looking at the boundaries for all Linn Mar schools. For more information go to the Linn Mar website and click on the left hand side where it says Boundary Committee.

PLAYTIME POPPY: Linn Mar will be acting out “Disney's Sleeping Beauty” a musical at the High School March 3rd at 1 PM. This is the first time Linn Mar has joined the Playtime Poppy line up. Tina will ask teachers this week to see who was interested in going. The PTO is willing to pay for all Indian Creek students ($2 per student) to attend. If all or just some of the student attend they would walk up to the HS for the performance.

GROWL PROWL: Taking place Sat. Oct. 3rd. Indian Creek is putting together the prerace packets at 8am Wednesday, Sept. 30th.

CLASSROOM PARTIES: Kim Sleezer is in charge of the meeting. The fall party planning will be held Thursday, September 24th at 7PM in the multipurpose room.

READ-A-THON: Becky Clabaugh would like to chair this. It was discussed to possibly do this in November. We could do this as a fundraiser for IC, a fundraiser for others in need (ex: buy books for Taylor Elementary), or just for fun. Bring ideas to October meeting for a discussion.

STRIDE FOR PRIDE: Wendy Draper will chair this event. We will discuss again in Oct. and set a date for spring.

GWE: Matt Siders discussed a flyer for GWE for a potential fundraiser. We would have and Indian Creek Night where the kids go and play at GWE. 50% of the admission price would be donated to the school. The date and time will be decided later. Max of 150 people, we may have to do a signup or a presale.

If you have any questions, concerns or comment about anything please send us an email at IC-pto@hotmail.com. We look forward to working with all the parents of Indian Creek in an effort to make IC a better place for all of our children!
