Welcome to the OCMA Website!

As we enjoy our eighty second season, OCMA celebrates being one of the oldest commuity music organizations in Iowa! OCMA began in 1929 with the purpose of bringing high quality musical entertainment to Ottumwa for a reasonable attendance price. We traditionally had three concerts each season - fall, winter, and spring, offering a wide variety of different musical genres. However, in 2004-2005 for our 75th anniversary season, we had a special season with FOUR concerts, and it went so well, we decided to conitnue doing it! With the help of our patrons generous donations, we have continued this new tradition of four concerts each season! Attendance at concerts may be by individual concert admission or by membership, but the best bargain is a membership, which allows attendance not only at OCMA's concerts but also reciprocally at events in Washington, Fairfield, and Centerville. Come join us for a great season in 2011-2012! .

SADDLE UP FOR THE RIDERS IN THE SKY

RIDERS IN THE SKY

The Ottumwa Civic Music Association proudly presents Riders in the Sky as the closing concert of its eighty second season on April 2, 2012 at Bridge View Center at 7:30 p.m. For more than thirty years Riders in the Sky have continued the tradition of Western music in the genre of the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry, and Roy Rogers, yet with their own brand of wacky humor and Western wit. This classic cowboy quartet is not all fun and games though; they are the ONLY exclusively Western artist to have won a Grammy, having won two! Exceptional artists, the Riders appeal to a diverse and broad based cross section of audience members, delighting cowboys and cowgirls of all ages and walks of life. Riders in the Sky have performed at the White House for both Democratic and Republican administrations, at Major League Baseball meetings, in theaters full of children, on USO tours, and even enthralling a symphony audience accompanied by fifty or so classically trained instrumentalists. The Ottumwa Civic Music Association acknowledges a grant from The Wapello County Foundation and a donation from Wells Fargo Bank in support of this concert. Come enjoy the evening with Ranger Doug, on guitars and vocals; Joey, the CowPolka King, on accordion; Woody Paul, fiddle, vocals and rope tricks; and Too Slim, bassist and comic. Admission is by season ticket and by single event tickets, $15 adult, $5 students. These will be on sale at 6:30 p.m. the night of the show.

First Two Concerts Have Been Great!!

We started the season off with a bang with The John Jorgensen Qunitet. a concert that was just as fabulous as we expected it to be, featuring Grammy award winning gypsy jazz guitarist John Jorgensen.

More recently, everyone enjoyed the wonderful performance of the Bottom Line Duo, a Bass and Cello and husband and wife Duo. And then, Nicholas Roth wowed us on piano just this month!

NEED TO CONTACT US? If you have questions, would like to become a member, would like to buy tickets, or need to contact OCMA for any reason, email us at celticdoc@msn.com or call Judy Engle at 641-682-1438.

Also feel free to give us feedback about concerts or tell us about something you would like to see in the future.

What's Coming Next Season

Looking forward to next season, we will have four fabulous concerts, starting in November with the return of The Hunt Family. After their fabulous reception here last time, we are expecting another great concert form this family of nine fiddling, singing, step dancing musicians.

In January or February (still working on it) we will welcome the Iowa Woodwind Quintet, our Iowa concert of the season. This group, musicians from Orchestra Iowa, are sure to impress.

March brings Intersection, a violin, cello, piano trio unlike any you have ever seen or heard. Indredibly talented, amazingly unique, daringly different, and not to be missed.

Finally, the season closes with Rodney Mack's Philadelphia Big Brass in April. This group of five musicians is led by Rodney Mack, an internationally known and renowned trumpeter who will blow your socks off!.
