OAK TREE OPRY The Oak Tree Opry is located at 650 Main Street in the rustic, typically rural village of Anita, Iowa. It's located about 3 miles south from Interstate-80 (Exit-70), and less than a mile from Lake Anita State Park where full RV facilities are available including toilets and showers. Great boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming. In this beautiful park you will also find all kinds of wildlife including deer, raccoons, badgers, fox, coyotes, rabbits, opposums, and occasionally a cougar or mountain lion will pay a visit. Plentiful geese, wild turkey, quail, ducks, coots, and even swans grace the lovely lake. It's not only a beautiful spot to camp, it's less than a mile from the Oak Tree Opry. Just across the street from the Opry is the Pioneer Music Museum, home to both America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame, and America's Old Time Fiddler's Hall of Fame. Admittance to these attractions are free with the purchase of a ticket to any show at the Oak Tree Opry. Also, just across the street is the Weathervane Cafe, a lovely rustic rural decor cafe that serves typical country style breakfasts and lunches. Just west of the Oak Tree, about a mile, is the Redwoods Steak House, which serves some of the best corn-fed char broiled beef in the State of Iowa. The Oak Tree has a concession stand that serves hot dogs, polish sausages, and an assortment of soft drinks, coffee, popcorn and candy. The Opry was started by Bob & Sheila Everhart in 1995, and has become a focal point for high quality performers with a large appreciative audience. Expect to hear Rick & Harriette Andersen; Marge Lund; Francis Hahn; Lee Muller; and Bob & Sheila Everhart on a regular basis. We also hope to have Anna Erickson the great fiddler as often as we can too. There is a small motel in Anita, the Anita Grand Motel at 712-762-3508.
SHOWS START PROMPTLY AT 7PM. TICKETS ARE $7 EACH OR $10 FOR RESERVED SEATS. SOME SHOWS SELL OUT SO RESERVED SEATS ARE RECOMMENDED. CALL 712-762-4363 FOR SEATS AND UPDATES.
2009 OAK TREE OPRY SCHEDULE 2010
April 16-17-18 is our annual SpringFest at the Opry. This is our chance to raise some money for the continued upkeep and operation of the old buildings we use. All entertainers desiring to participate are welcome. April 30 - John & Susan McNeill, two popular performers who have gained considerable fan base in the upper midwest. John plays drums, harmonica, guitar, sings, and tells jokes all at the same time, remarkably well. Susan plays bass and does the harmony vocalizing. A great show, one not to miss. May 14 - One of the most incredible shows we have ever attempted at our little Oak Tree Opry. The Kenaston Family from Nebraska, perhaps the best and best known musicians in the upper midwest are joined by steel guitar player Curt Shoemaker (in the Kansas Steel Guitar Player Hall of Fame), and trumpt player Jerry Neeman (former music teacher in Nebraska). Both Shoemaker and Neeman will be inducted in America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame during this show. May 28 - The Johnson Strings. This amazing family of 8 play strings like you've never heard. Violins, fiddles, cellos, violas, double-bass, it's all in this group, everything from the Orange Blossom Special to the Blue Danube. Incredibly entertaining family with double whammies. June 11 - Jackie Shewey, the Patsy Cline of the upper midwest, doing great Cline songs as well as comedy. A large fan base make followers find her, especially since they've heard her sing "Just Look At Old Glory" one of her original patriotic songs. July 2 - Red Johnson, recording artist with Capitol Records with a huge hit "There's A Grand Ole Opry Show Playing Somewhere" Reservations are already starting for this show, and it's only October 28, 2009. July 16 - Still in the air, but there are four favorites on tap for this date. Bluegrass Playground with Dan McElroy; the Matney Sisters; Pat Boilesen; and Elton Flodmon. Only time will tell what the show will finally be. August 6 - Terry Smith, from Nashville, Tenn., the composer of "Far Side Banks of Jordan" for Johnny and June Carter Cash. Bob & Sheila Everhart were the very first ones to book Terry in the upper midwest, and his fan base is now phenomenal. His followers are in the legions, and seat reservations are mandatory for this show. August 20 - TBA September 10 - Greta Elkin from Londonderry, North Ireland, comes for another international show. This wonderful performer can yodel like nobody's business, but her signature song, "The Mockingbird" is to die for. October 8 - Roger Tibbs from New Zealand, another yodeler with an incredible background as a professional performer in that country. We met Roger 4 years ago on our first tour of NZ, and began the process of getting him to America, and into America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame, International Division. October 22 - Dale Eichor (KWMT) and Bobby Awe are two of the most proficient singers of classic country music in the upper midwest. Both have huge fan bases, and this show is another where seat reservations are mandatory to get in.
