ROYAL FLAIR MUSIC BMI

Music publishing is part and parcel of not only promoting current compositions, but keeping music from the past alive. When Bob Everhart was working hard during his college days getting a music career started, he worked with a band called the Royal Flairs. A recording company in California, "Sound And Music" heard of this group and offered them a recording contract. One of the first songs they recorded for SAM Records, was a song the owner had written called "Lets Go." The band recorded the song in a rock and roll style, along with a number of their own originals. As soon as "Let's Go" was released in California and started receiving air play, a California group called the "Routers" covered the song, or as they say in the business, re-recorded it for a major label. That group had more money and more marketing abilities than SAM Records, so the Royal Flairs lost their first hit record. The end result however was that the owner of the company, Leona Levias, offered to help Bob Everhart set up his own music publishing company to better protect their own, his in particular, original music.
