Descriptions – Two Day Classes
Thursday – Friday: Say it With Flowers Class 201 Marnie Ritter
$58 All Levels
Flowers, flowers, flowers.
How many are there? Look around you - lots! What is a world without flowers.
Real fresh flowers are the beginning of this enhanced canvas. We “pound them” onto the glitter canvas to
create a bouquet over which the stitched flowers will float. The fascination
with the different impressions is unending in both color and shape. It seems
magic! The flowers are created
with embroidered French ribbon manipulation, fishbone stitched overdyed ribbon
flowers, beaded flower shapes, satin stitch, bullion, French knots, and
appliqued lace. The basket is created with
an off-set herringbone counted canvas pattern and basket weave. Silks, overdyed ribbon,
beads, rayons, and metallics are the chosen threads. Size: design 7”square,
finished size: 9”x7” Student needs: assembled stretcher bars 12”x14”;

Standing Webb $85 Basic-Intermediate
Miss Hannah’s House was created to remember
all the teachers and students who created samplers in school. Miss Hannah Swan
was a teacher from Charleston who taught in Massachusetts but none of the
samplers that her students stitched have been found. The house and the toys
have a number of stitches that were used on
period samplers from the areas where she studied and taught, such as
cross stitch, marking cross, smyrna cross, queen stitch, Irish stitch, long arm
cross, blanket stitch, satin stitch, and rice stitch. The design for the roof of
the house features two alphabets and a verse. Animals and trees are stitched on
the outside of the house along with Miss Hannah and two of her students. The
alphabet book contains folded paper alphabets and a few designs. The
personalized pin ball has a row of glass headed pins around it. The apple
shaped measuring tape has a ribbon leaf for the tape pull. The painted wooden
needle case mimics a wooden pencil that the students would have used in class. Technique: Counted Thread Student to Bring: Stretcher bars,
tacks, light and magnification if needed, and basic sewing kit. Project Size: House - 5x3x3 inches;Tape
Measure - 2 inches; Alphabet book - 1 ¾x2 ¼ inches; Pin Ball - 1 ½ inch diameter;

Beginner to Advanced
In this two day class the student will
work either the Wild Rose or the Red Poll using a single strand of DMC embroidery
floss in the needle at one time, in the method of long and short stitch. This embroidery is suitable for all
levels; each stage of the embroidery is demonstrated and explained in detail. This is an intriguing technique, using
the threads as your paints on a closely woven fabric to create a realistic
picture. Several professional stitching techniques will be covered when we work
the design, i.e. starting and finishing of threads, the use of a split stitch
line and working the design as a 3-dimensional piece. Different embroidery stitches will be
used, i.e. split stitch, stem stitch, satin stitch, and long and short. The
technique of blending long and short stitches so that they shade beautifully
and how to position the stitches so that they lay smooth will be covered in the
class. The student goes home with the knowledge
of how to design a piece, transfer the design onto the fabric and all the
information required to complete the embroidery. Size: Wild Rose: Height:
3 1/4 inches (8 1/4 cm) Width: 3 1/2 inches (8 3/4 cm) Red Poll: Height: 3 inches (7 1/2 cm)
