Lower Level - Crown Point Community Center, 6300 Pioneer Parkway, Johnston, Iowa 50131

HOURS- Saturdays 1:00-3:00 PM.... -Tuesdays 4:00-6:00

Clothing and sundries items are available. We ask each family to pay $2 to help replenish the sundry shelves. Each family may take 5 items of clothing for each family member.

Items accepted for donation on First Saturday 10:00 AM-1:00 PM.

Background: The Closet is in its second year of operation. Like others in the area, The Closet at Crown Point provides free, gently used clothing and sundry items for infants through adults. All items come from community donations. The Closet at Crown Point receives no governmental funding, although we are located at Crown Point, a community facility owned and operated by the City of Johnston. The Closet at Crown Point is a joint project of the Johnston Partnership for a Healthy Community and the Johnston Rotary. Staffing is entirely volunteers.

The Closet at Crown Point is presently serving more than 140 families. From September of this year to present, we have added nearly 40 new families. These families are in need of warm clothing for their school-aged children and so we are holding a special collection on January 3rd from 10am - 1pm. Please bring your gently used children's winter clothing, children's winter gear or unused sundry items (baby, feminine, paper or laundry products) to the Closet for this special collection. Please note the Closet will be closed on Tuesday, December 30th to prepare for this collection. Our regular collections will begin again the first Saturday in March. Please contact Shawna Beron at 515.868.1357 for more information or to volunteer! Our regular store hours are Tuesdays from 4-6pm and Saturdays from 1-3pm. We are closed on holidays and holiday weekends.

Volunteers Stocking The Closet

Hours to sort and fold clothes or to stock shelves are flexible according to the size of the group volunteering.

For information on how to become a volunteer, or for any other questions, please call 868-1357.

VOLUNTEERS ALWAYS NEEDED
If you or your group would like to volunteer a couple hours sorting or folding clothing, please call 868-1357. Stop in to visit.

Congregate Meals meet upstairs at 12:00. Meal is available to everyone: over 60 yrs- donation; under 60 years- cost of the meal. Reservation must be made at least 24 hours in advance: call 251-3707.

  CLOTHING ALWAYS USED
The Closet has recently started to work with DMACC's Urban Campus Iowa New Choices program and the Family Violence Center. They are looking for adult clothing appropriate for job interviews. The Closet at Crown Point will accept clothing that would fit that purpose also.

COMMUNITY COLLABORATION

A joint venture of The Johnston Partnership for a Healthy Community, Inc. and the Johnston Rotary. The City of Johnston has supported this project and has allowed The Closet to use its space at Crown Point. The purpose of the The Closet is to provide a place for lower income individuals and families within our community to obtain much needed clothing, shoes, and sundry items (i.e. laundry detergent, paper products, toiletries). A fee of $2.00 for each family's visit to pick up items is used to purchase needed sundries. A family can volunteer hours at The Closet in lieu of the fee.
