We have enjoyed serving the Johnston Community for the past 4 years.
----A DMARC Food Pantry will be offered to eligible families and community members in Johnston and the Johnston School district.
----Food and sundry supplies are available once every 30 days. Food Pantry clients must bring identification for each member of their family; bring a document or piece of mail with a current postmark each time they visit. Coupons for use at the Johnston Farmerís Market will be available to DMARC Food Pantry customers during warm weather months.
----The initiation of these new programs is the result of a collaborative effort to improve the health, welfare and well being of the residents of the Johnston community and Johnston school community who may need these services now or in the future.
----The Johnston Partnership is currently looking for a site that can better accommodate not only the Clothes Closet and DMARC Food Pantry but RRACAP services and other service providers who may be interested in providing services in the Johnston area.
----The increasing needs of families during these tough economic times have been brought to the attention of the Johnston Partnership For a Health Community by the increase in the number of families who qualify for free or reduced lunches at school; by the increased number of families and individuals seeking assistance at holiday time from the Community Education Departmentís Project STAR program and by the increasing numbers of clients whom The Closet has served since it opened fouryears ago.
----We know that if we build it, they will come. The question we have now is, if we build it, will the Johnston Community support it?
----If you would like to make a financial donation to help support this initiative, please send your contribution to: Johnston Partnership For a Health Community, P.O. Box 975 Johnston Iowa 50131.
----If you are interested in volunteering your time or talents to these projects, please call: Shawna Beron, Project /Volunteer Coordinator at 515-868-1357 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
----Johnston Partnership For a Healthy Community is a 501(c)3 non-profit, community-based organization
The Closet & Pantry currently serves 260 families and has seen an increase of 60 families since the school year began. Due to this increase, our children's clothing supply is severely limited and we are asking for your help.
Want to clean out your kids' closets? Bring your gently used children's clothing to The Closet. Help us organize our sorting room by donating empty copy paper boxes with lids. We will also be accepting: new socks and underwear for toddlers and school-age children and new sundry items (baby, feminine, paper or laundry products and personal care items). We are a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization and will provide you with a receipt for your donation. We will not accept household items, toys, adult shoes, bedding and jewelry. We ask that you please find another organization in which to donate these items. Contact Shawna Beron at 515.868.1357 for more information or to volunteer!
Background: The Closet is in its fourth year of operation. Like others in the area, The Closet provides gently used clothing for infants through young adults. All items come from community donations. The Closet receives no governmental funding. The Closet is a project of the Johnston Partnership for a Healthy Community. Staffing is entirely volunteers.
JOHNSTON IOWA LIVING MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2010
The Johnston community has been extremely generous in donating clean, gently used, in-season clothing items.
A joint venture of The Johnston Partnership for a Healthy Community, Inc. and the Johnston Rotary. The City of Johnston has supported this project and has allowed The Closet to use its space. The purpose of the The Closet is to provide a place for lower income individuals and families within our community to obtain much needed clothing.
