Portneuf Valley Soccer Club -- Tryouts for Spring 2009 Season

PORTNEUF VALLEY SOCCER CLUB -- TRYOUTS FOR SPRING 2009 SEASON

PVSC will host a full range of Competitive Teams for the Spring 2009 Season. As required

by the U.S. Youth Soccer Association, PVSC will conduct tryouts for each team. Tryouts will

take place in June for high-school aged players and October for middle-school aged players, as

decribed below. Note - All age groups refer to ages for the forthcoming Spring 2009 season.

U15-18 Girls and Boys

A two-day Tryout for all U15-18 boys and girls will take place on Wednesday & Friday,

June 4 & 6, from 6-8 PM at Ward Park. Each age/gender group will be evaluated by 2-3

coaches, who will rank the players. Based on this ranking, 12-16 players will be selected to play

for each Club team in Spring 2009. Selection will be made by members of the Competitive

Committee based on advice from the evaluators and assigned coaches.

U15-18 players not selected because of their rankings or absence from tryouts will be

evaluated by coaches during the Fall 2008 high school season. No additional tryouts will occur

for these players -- if necessary, the assigned coaches can conduct individual evaluations.

Coaches will identify additional players at the end of the high school season, and ask the

Competitive Committee to select these players by November 1, 2008.

U13-14 Girls and Boys

A two-day Tryout for all U13-14 boys and girls will be held on Tuesday & Thursday,

October 28 & 30, 2008 from 5-7:00 PM at Ward Park. Each age/gender group will be

evaluated by 2-3 coaches, who will rank the players. Based on this ranking, 12-16 players will

be selected to play for each Club team in Spring 2009. Selection will be made by the

Competitive Committee based on advice from the evaluators and assigned coaches.

U13-14 players not selected because of their rankings or absence from tryouts may be (1)

invited to join a Classic Team, or (2) invited to a second tryout in early January during indoor

season. Coaches will evaluate the additional players in early January and ask the Competitive

Committee to assign these players to Club or Classic Teams by January 20, 2009.

What to Bring:

(1) Equipment: Ball, shinguards, cleats, water bottle

(2) Paperwork: Forms can be downloaded from the GCYSL Web site or completed on-site.

If currently registered with GCYSL, no paperwork or pre-registration is needed

If not registered, the player must bring $20 and a Liability Waiver signed by a parent

Play-Ups:

A player may request to play-up one age group by completing a form that includes a parent

signature. To qualify for a play-up attempt, the player must be one of the top ten players in his/her

true age group. To qualify for a position on the older team, the player must be one of the top seven

players in the older age group.

Team Formation

A "Club" team consisting of the top players will be offered to boys and girls at each age group.

Club teams will play in the Snake River League and attend at least 5 tournaments. The Club team is

for players who are strongly committed to the sport and can devote the necessary time to play.

A "Classic" team will be offered at every age group where there are sufficient players beyond those

selected for the Club team. Classic teams will play in the Snake River League and may attend

tournaments if they wish. Classic teams are for players who enjoy soccer but prefer a less timeconsuming

commitment to the sport.

Most teams will be single-age teams: U15G, U16G, U17G, etc. However, depending upon the

number and quality of players who try out, some Club and Classic teams may be dual-age teams:

U15/16G, U17/18G, etc

Fees

The fee for playing on a "Club" team will be $350. These fees cover the costs of (1) registration,

equipment, field maintenance ($90); (2) coaching ($90); and (3) five tournaments ($170). Uniforms

and travel to tournaments are not included in this fee. The fee for playing on a "Classic" team will be

$90, which covers the cost of registration, equipment, and field maintenance. Uniforms and

tournament fees (optional) are not included.

If currently registered with GCYSL, no Tryout Fee or preregistration is due. Just show up at

Tryouts at the scheduled time. If not currently registered, a $20 fee and liability waiver are

due before participating in Tryouts. Complete payment of all registration fees will be due in

January, 2009.
