"SAKURA"
A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE

The name means cherry blossoms, and it aptly depicts the airy, spring-like atmosphere inside Sa Ku Ra, Japanese Grocery and Tea Room, located at 610 N. Arthur.

Inside the tea room, simple benches covered with woven mats and delicate, hand-painted screens set the tone for the authentic conversation space. The building features an oak staircase and distinctive woodwork throughout. The store also offers food tasting each Friday when the public can sample traditional Japanese cuisine.

The tea room provides a quiet relaxed space where shoppers can sit and enjoy a cup of tea and the store's signature Japanese bread. "American students are always amazed by Japanese bread," Fukuoka said. "It's kind of a 3 p.m. snack." Eventually, Sakura will include conference rooms and a full cultural center that will bring Japanese cooking classes and entertainment to Pocatello.

Contact Sachiko at 233-4400 for more information about Japanese Food Tasting, cooking classes and available grocery items.

Store hours: Tue-Sat Noon to 7 pm
