Cities/County/School District Links... A very important factor in the success of any legislative issue is the gathering of public input and public opinion. During various times of the year, important issues concerning the City of Pocatello, the City of Chubbuck, and Bannock County arise with a great need for public input on the matter. Often public forums are setup for people to visit to offer their insight and feedback. But all too often these forums are not well attended due to conflicts of time for people wishing to relay a position. Because the outcome of many decisions are decided by public response to our leaders, we feel it is of vital importance to our Chamber to offer our members an easy communication link to both cities and the county representatives. |
Local Issues Update... The Local Issues Committee meets monthly on the 2nd Friday of each month @ 7:30 a.m. at Perkin's Restaurant. Topics of discussion vary. See the Local Issues Minutes tab to the left of the page for more information.

A Perfect Example of Your Chamber In Action... Some of the greatest benefits of investing in the Chamber are the indirect benefits the Chamber creates for your business. A great deal of those indirect benefits comes from actions taken by our issues committees. Regulatory agencies, legislative bills, city ordinances and business climate decisions dicate the business climate we operate in everyday. That is why the Chamber keeps abreast of the issues that most business owners don't have the time to keep track of. One of the best examples of the Chamber in action happened in 2000. A situation had developed due to a decision made by the Idaho Supreme Court a few years ago. Basically the decision set a presidence that a employer could be held liable for actions of a previous or former employee. CONT NEXT COLUMN |
continued................... This action not only covered private employers but it also included public employers. The liability was immense for all businesses and could spell disaster for most. So our Chamber, along with other Chamber and the support from IACI helped past a bill in the 2000 session that basically eliminated that liability to businesses except in extreme circumstances. If not for the Chamber, who would be a constant watchdog for our business community?
