Who are the Jaycees?

The Jaycees are a group of young adults involved in the community.
Anyone between the ages of 21 and 40 can join a local organization. Our members are simply people who wish to better themselves while serving the community.

Jaycees participate in a wide variety of activities, but are best known for our community projects. The Charleston Jaycees run several projects throughout the year including:
Valentines for Nursing Home Residents, Car Show, Haunted House, Pictures with Santa Clause, Community Fundraising Projects, Self Improvement Projects, and Professional Development Projects.

What Do the Jaycees Offer?

The Junior Chamber organization is a constructive action organization of young persons who devote a portion of their time to community service in the public interest, developing young persons as leaders of their community. (Taken from The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce Bylaws and Policy Manual.)

Is there more than the local chapter?

When you become a member, you're automatically eligible to reap the benefits of belonging to your local chapter, the local region Jaycees, the Illinois Jaycees, the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce and Junior Chamber International.

Activities are offered in three development areas:

Individual Development
Programs designed to increase the personal skills of the individual member.

Community Development
Programs and projects run by the chapter for the direct benefit of the community.

Management Development
Management techniques and officer's training to improve the individual's management skills.

Becoming A Member...

How much does it cost to join?
Each chapter sets its own dues rate. The amount is very reasonable considering the yield you'll receive. Your dues help run your local chapter, as well as the State, National and International organizations. The Charleston Chapters dues are $50.00 a year made payable to the Charleston Jaycess.

How much time do I have to commit?
Dedicate as much time and effort as you want.
Of course, your return on investment will depend greatly on what you want out of your membership and how much time you put into it.

How do I Join?

Click on the "I'm Ready to Join" link and follow directions or email a member of the Board of Directors whose name is underlined on the left margin!

Don't delay, join today!

After I join, then what?

It depends on you; there are many diversified activity areas. After you join, all that remains is for you to involve yourself in whatever areas stimulate your interests. If there is something that interests you that the local Jaycees don't do, then we want you to propose a project. Your local chapter, region, state and national Jaycees organizations are continuously improving their programming to better fulfill the needs of the community and the varied interests of all our members.
