NOTICE: eDMR Report Notification!
I have just been in contact with the USEPA and IEPA; and both departments are saying that if you see a report for your Annual SLD L and/or SLD P on the list of eDMR reports you should disregard them and just continue to send in the hardcopy reports that you sent in the past. So, you should send the IEPA your normal hardcopy 2011 Sludge Management Report, and the USEPA the normal hardcopy 2011 Annual 503 Sludge Report.
James Coleman (USEPA) and Tammy Harter (IEPA) explained that the reason the reports were in the eDMR System was due to miscommunication between the two department's computers.
For any additional questions you may contact them and they will be glad to answer your questions.

CIPWO Fall Officer Meeting Report 2011
CIPWO's Officers met in Champaign on Dec. 14th 2011 to start planning for the upcoming Winter Meeting and to take care of any outstanding organization business. Those able to attend were Dave Hermes, Wade Lagle, Don Jordan, and myself.
From this meeting I can report the following. The Winter Meeting will be held as usual at the Holiday Inn in Urbana on the last Wednesday of January (01/25/12). Larwence Quick has graciously offered to give a presentation on his new Orbal Facility at Robinson IL. And we are working on an additional topic of a new short school to begin soon in our area, but there is nothing locked down on this currently so we are listing it as a tenative.
Dave Miller informed me prior to the meeting (which he regretted not being able to attend) that Annual Membership Dues are again waived and the price for the Winter Meeting Lunch will remain at $20 per person. I believe this is less-than-cost but the organization will pick up the difference. Thanks goes out to our contributing members for their help again for this year!
We are looking for the next Vice President by-the-way, if you would like to get involved with the Organization please feel free to contact me at charlestonwwtp@consolidated.net.
Please take note that if you know of anyone that you think might not be recieving updates to this website please forward the link to them or more importantly send me their info and I will get them added.
Finally, please start sending your RSVPs to Dave Miller if you and/or your coworkers plan to attend. Send it via email to DLM285@aol.com remember to add the number of members that are planning to attend. The early notice really helps Dave on planning the event!

CIPWO 2011 Summer Meeting Report
 Summer Meeting 2011
CIPWO's 2011 Annual Summer Meeting was held on July, 27th at the Rantoul WWTP with approximately 40 or so in attendance.
As there was no new business to discuss the Opening Message by President Dave Hermes was brief and ended with Dave introducing our first set of speakers; John Conover and Chris Napier of Atlas Copco, a major manufacturer of blowers and comprssers based out in Belguim. John gave a brief introduction to his company explaining that Atlas Copco is the largest manufacturer of compressers and blowers in the world.
While John explained that his company sold many different types of units his main focus for this presentation was on High Speed Turbo and Screw Type Blowers. He explained the general principles of modern blower technologies and design and even touched lightly on new safety requirments concerning noise, etc. John then explained that both types could accomodate a wide variety of applications, but in the end the screw type would have the least initial expense while the turbos were slightly more effecient and had a lead on vesatility of control. He went on to explain that given this information the screw type was the highest selling model but that markets were growing for the turbos.
John finished by fielding questions from the group, and then relinquished the floor back to Dave Hermes.
Dave informed us that the second presentor had not made it to the meeting and that we would begin the tour of the Rantoul Wastewater Facilities early and that it would allow more time to take in their operation. Following the tour we would then meet back for lunch.
CIPWO wishes to thank John and Chris and their employer for their time and the benefit of their knowledge in blower technology. If you’d like more information please feel free to follow the link in the left-hand column of this page to the website for Atlas Copco (www.atlascopco.us).
Following the presentation and tour, lunch was served with plenty of food for the masses! Thanks to Dave Miller, Frank McPherson, and I think Gerry Lynch was pithing in at the grills as well.
Following a leasurely lunch break Dave began distributing the door prizes.
CIPWO would like to again thank our wonderful Contributing Members and Vendors for all your generosity. The Contributing Members (CM) present at this meeting were; PDC Labs, Prairie Analytical, Vandevanter Engineering, Tek lab, Gasvoda & Associates, and Illinois Electric Works. If I left anyone out, I apologize.) Please follow their links as well for your operational supplies and maintenance needs. Let's support them with opportunities for business as they support our organization.
On the topic of CM support I also want to mention that this is the third year in a row that no memberships dues were collected by regular members and no lunch fee for the Summer Meeting as well. This is due primarily to our Contributing Members, with assistance and frugality of Dave Miller and the use of this website over the old paper newsletter, but mostly to the CMs. So click those links, and when you have an opportunity to speak with them offer them a bit of appreciation on behalf of "YOUR" Organization.
Thanks also to the City and Staff of Rantoul WWTP for hosting our meeting. See you next year!
Dianne Potter is taking over as Coordinator of IEPA's Operator Certifications!
Susan Lee has informed me that Dianne will be taking over responsibility for Operator Certifications. She can be contacted at 217/782-9720.
On behalf of CIPWO I wish to welcome Dianne in her new role and offer our congratulations or condolences on your new appointment whichever is most appropriate! And thank you for your service.
eDMR Failure Report
If you have attepmted to log into your eDMR account you might find that you are having trouble with authentication errors. If this is the case for you as it was for me please, try the fix that I have listed below from Token Nolder of the IEPA, it worked for me and hopefully it will for you as well.

CIPWO Winter Meeting Report
 Winter Meeting 2011
CIPWO's Annual Winter Meeting was held on January, 26th at the Holiday INN of Urbana with approximately 40-45 in attendance.
The meeting began and was conducted by our Vice-President Dave Hermes who was filling in for President Larry Dorn who could not make it due to a death in the family. We at CIPWO would like to express our condolences to Larry and his family in their time of grief.
The meeting began with a Business Meeting for the Membership. Topics discussed in-brief were; Bob Voss’ retirement, Bob was in attendance and the full body thanked him for all of his assistance and hard work over the years.
Also discussed was a message sent from Susan Lee (who will be taking on the lion’s share of Bob’s duties). She asked me (Dave Collard) to remind everyone that when applying for a certification exam you should take care to be thorough, be specific when answering questions (especially those concerning job duties, etc.), and be sure to have all documents that need it, signed. Failure to do so, she explained, would probably require her to send it back for revision. Susan said the duties she has been given are in addition to her previous duties as the hiring freeze is still in effect. Therefore, Bob's position will not be filled at this time.
Finally, with the appreciation of the Officers and Membership, Wade Lagle of the Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District volunteered and was accepted as our new Vice-President. We look forward to Wade’s involvement with the administration of the Organization.
Following the Business Meeting we moved on to our guest speakers. We had two speakers attending the meeting to give presentations. The first speaker was Joe Pisula of Donohue & Associates speaking on new requirements being added to wastewater permits that require nutrient monitoring and reporting, and in a few cases included permit limits. This appears to be a very relevant topic for review so I would recommend that if you were not able to attend the meeting that you research the issue yourself or you could possibly find yourself coming up on the short end of a difficult situation.
NOTE: Joe and IEPA Staff that were attending urged that anyone receiving a new permit use the 15 day review period to compare your new permits with the existing ones to find those less-than-obvious changes.
The second speaker was Paul Shetley of the Environmental Resources Training Center (ERTC) who presented information on the benefits of employing ERTC graduates in wastewater and Water positions, be it Operations, Maintenance, Lab, or any other related position in our industry. Paul explained that tuition for the full-year program is now $9800 and that it takes nearly that full year to complete. The program includes training in the areas mentioned previously and includes two five-week internships in a Water and Wastewater Treatment Facility. The students are then eligible to test for Illinois Class 4 Wastewater, Class C & D Water, as well as Missouri Class 4 Wastewater, and Class 4 Water certifications. All of this brings one to the conclusion that ERTC and its graduates provide prospective employers with a potentially better and well-rounded source for future employees.
Being a 1991 Graduate of the Program myself I am entirely biased, but I believe that my bias is supported with much evidence of the benefits to everyone in the industry that can be offered by this school and its students.
CIPWO wishes to thank Joe and Paul and their respective employers for their time and the benefit of their knowledge in both areas of discussion. If you’d like more information please feel free to follow the links in the left-hand column of this page to the websites for Donohue and ERTC.
Following the presentations lunch was served in the Atrium we rejoined the Vendors Gallery for more discourse, and the distributing of the door prizes.
CIPWO would like to again thank our wonderful Contributing Members and Vendors for all your generosity. (Please follow their links as well for your operational supplies and maintenance needs.) Let's support them with opportunities of commerce as they support our Organization.
 See You Next Year!

Joe Koronkowski Retired on May 31st, 2011!
And many of his friends turned out to wish him well on his future endeavors.
Benjamin Disraeli once said, "I feel a very unusual sensation - if it is not indigestion, I think it must be gratitude."
And since the spread was so nice at El Toro that day I would have to offer for myself and all of CIPWO, "Many thanks Joe for all you have done! And best wishes for your retirement."
Here are a few pictures of the event if you did not get a chance to attend.
Suggested reading from our Editor-at-Large Holly Hirchert
In 2007, thousands of readers of the prestigious British Medical Journal picked sanitation, or wastewater collection and treatment, as “the most important medical advance since 1840.” That’s right; sanitation was chosen by medical professionals as the most important medical advancement during the past 160 years instead of anesthetics, antibiotics, and countless other Nobel Prize-winning advances.

IEPA Looses Big!
As of December 30, 2010 Bob Voss began his retirement and the IEPA became one of the "Biggest Loosers" (yeah I said it) for the day. I'm sure everyone will agree that we owe Bob a huge thanks for all of his help over the years. I'm also sure I speak for all of the members of CIPWO in wishing Bob a long, healthy, and happy retirement! Good Luck Bob.
CIPWO Fall Officer Meeting Report
CIPWO's Officers met in Mattoon on Dec. 10th 2010 to start planning for the upcoming Winter Meeting and to take care of any outstanding organization business. Those able to attend were Dave Miller, Don Jordan, and myself much to the regret of the other Officers that could not make it. However, workload dictates schedules and issues like seven water main breaks that day can certainly override many things, as I'm sure Larry can attest.
In any event the meeting was held and here is what I can report. The Winter Meeting will be held as usual at the Holiday Inn in Urbana on the last Wednesday of January (01/26/11)! We have ideas for presenters but until they are firmed up we will list the Speakers as TBA.
Good news also is that the coffers are doing well enough that Annual Membership Dues are again waived and the meal this year will run only $20 per person (this is at less-than-cost but Dave informs us that the organization can afford to pick up the rest). Thanks again to our contributing members for which we owe much!
Next item on the adgenda will be to find the next Vice President, if anyone out there has someone that they'd like to nominate for the position, or if any of you would like to get involved and volunteer please feel free to contact me at charlestonwwtp@consolidated.net.
And finally, if you know of anyone that you think might not be recieving updates to this website please forward the link to them or more importantly send me their info and I will get them added.
More detailed information will be forthcoming as it presents itself. Please send RSVP information to Dave Miller at dlm285@aol.com
CIPWO's Summer Meeting will take place on July, 28th, 2010 in Decatur IL.
CIPWO is pleased to annouce that it's 2010 Summer Meeting will be hosted by Vandevanter Engineering/BRI at their Decatur IL Location. VE has graciously offered to give the instructional presentation(s) and the tour will consist of their motor machine shop and facilities following lunch.
The meeting schedule will be the usual registration from 9 to 10am, and the meeting will run from approximately 10am through 2:30pm. More information to follow!
The Officers of CIPWO are looking into different avenues to offer the widest range of instruction, communication, and interaction for the membership hence the change this year from the usual visit of one of our member facilities. We are hopeful that this additional scope for our meetings will allow our contributing members to show the regular membership what they and their facilities can offer. Have you ever wondered what happened to your equipment when you sent a pump off for rebuild, or maybe what goes on at a laboratory when they run your 503 Sludge samples? Well, if you have, then with the cooperation of our contributing members you will have the chance to find out.
These new meeting venues will not replace the Teatment Plant visits but rather they will be considered as a supplement to them. Thanks to the Officers and the Contributing Members for your work to broaden our horizons.
Summer Meeting RSVP: Please email your attendance numbers to Mike Rynd of Vandevanter Engineering, and Dave Miller. Their emails are mrynd@vandevanter.com and Dave's is DLM285@aol.com

CIPWO Winter Meeting Report
 2010 CIPWO Winter Meeting Demo
CIPWO's Annual Winter Meeting took place on January, 27th at the Holiday INN of Urbana. Sign-in took place from 9am to 10am which allowed for attendees to visit with Vendors and catch up with each other's story-telling abilities.
The meeting began with a brief business meeting conducted by our out-going President Don Jordan who will assume his new role as Coordinator, and Larry Dorn was welcomed to his new position as President for 2010. Also, by nomination from the Officers a motion was made to accept David Hermes (Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District) as the new Vice-President which passed unanimously. CIPWO wishes to thank Dave for his willingness to help the Organization in this new capacity.
The Business portion was closed by a few words from Bob Voss and Joe Koronkowski concerning CEUs. (Which I think ended in a tie?)
Two speakers attended the meeting to give presentations. The first speaker was Jerry Myers of NatGun speaking on above-ground stressed concrete storage tanks. Jerry's presentation was very informative, and quite frankly some of the pictures of previous constructions were amazing. These tanks come in nearly any size, and can be built in some of the most unreasonable of sites. If I picked up anything at all I did learn that above ground tankage can be effective, attractive in appearance, and competitively affordable to the competition.
The second speaker was Mike Rynd of Vandevanter Engineering speaking on K Turbo Blowers and Turbo Blowers in general. The presentation showed innovations in air delivery technologies that are both on the cutting edge of the field while also deploying enough operational units to soon, if not already, be considered proven technology. Couple with this the fact that most of the new technologies have actually been proven in other industries (such as in jet engines) and the new turbo blowers as a type are poised to replace old tech with a high-efficiency replacement.
CIPWO wishes to thank Jerry and Mike and their respective employers for giving us much new info to think about. Please feel free to follow the links in the left column to the websites for NatGun and K Turbo.
Following the presentations and a nice lunch served in the Atrium we rejoined in the Vendors Gallery for more discourse, and the door prizes. I believe nearly if not all attendees went home with a door prize.
CIPWO would like to again thank our wonderful Contributing Members and Vendors for all your generosity. (Please follow their links as well for your operational supplies and maintenance needs.) Let's support them with opportunities of commerce as they support our Organization.
Fall Officers Meeting Report:
(by: David Collard)
11/13/09 Today the Fall CIPWO Officers Meeting was held in Mattoon IL. In attendence were Don Jordan-President, Larry Dorn-Vice President, Dave Miller-Secretary Treasurer, and Dave Collard-Coordinator. Topics discussed included the Annual Winter Meeting, CIPWO's finances and well-being, and adjustments to staff officers.
Dave Miller reported that the finances for the organization were in good order and recommended that with the reduction in operating costs that the $5 membership fee be waived until further notice. This motion was approved unanimously.
Additionally, Dave requested certain fees be waived until further notice for our Contributing Members. This too was approved unanimously.
Note: More detailed information concerning these fee changes should follow in the next week or so as it becomes available to me.
The Annual Winter Meeting will take place as usual on the last Wednesday of January. Several suggestions for speakers were offered and an official notice of this up-coming meeting will be posted after this article. Dave is asking for RSVPs to be sent for the Winter meeting no later than Jan. 20, 2010! You will now be able to RSVP by email and a link for this will be provided on this website in the near future.(See Below for Meeting Notifications and Details)
Don Jordan also made a motion to create a new staff officer position bearing the title of Website Coordinator and nominated me to assume the position. The motion carried and I accepted the position with thanks to the other officers for their consideration. This position replaces the one of Newsletter Editor that was formerly held by Kristin Platt.

CIPWO Spring Officer Meeting 2009 News
As it has been in the past the Spring Officer’s Meeting for CIPWO was held following the opening day of the IAWPCO Conference in Springfield on April 21, 2009. The following topics were discussed; Location for the Summer Meeting, Speakers for that meeting, the organization’s budget, and a letter to be sent to State Representatives concerning staffing levels for the IEPA.
The location for the Summer Meeting was suggested and agreed upon to be held at the Newton WWTP.
Secretary-Treasurer Dave Miller reported that the budget was doing well due to measures to control costs in several aspects of the organization’s business operations. The members will benefit from this by seeing no lunch fee for this year’s Summer Meeting. A full budget statement will be released shortly and will be posted on this website when it becomes available.
Finally, it was unanimously agreed that a letter should be penned and sent to various representatives to request attention be given to improved staffing at the IEPA. For far too long it is felt that the State Government has failed to keep up with the inherent demand for replacement Agency Staff to the point that the environment is at risk of being adversely impacted and Public Safety is put at unnecessary risk as well. A copy of the letter will be added to this website as soon as it becomes available.

 CIPWO Winter Meeting 2009 News
Given the weather and road conditions the CIPWO Winter Meeting of 2009 was an unqualified success! Though census was low we had a much better turn out than we had expected with about forty members present, and seven Contributing Members setting up booths. Add to this that Dan Marsh of ISTC, and Dan Simpson and Steve Adams of Bernardi Securities all made it to give their presentations and more could not be asked!
The Business Meeting opened and Larry Dorn was welcomed as a returning Officer for the group as the newly elected Vice-President. Thanks Larry for your willingness to dedicate your time and energy. Thanks was also given to Gerry Lynch for his service as our outgoing Coordinator. Don Jordan has now stepped into the President's Office and Kristin Platt was installed as our new Coordiantor.
Also during the Business Meeting the changes of 2008 were recapped and discussion given to this website replacing the old Newsletter. It was a consensus that we should periodically send out mailings for a while to make sure everyone who used the old Newsletter is aware of the website. With no additional items for discussion the business meeting was adjourned and the floor was given to Bob Voss for an update of the Operator Certification CEU Program which is still moving forward.
A presentation from Dan Marsh of ISTC concerning his organization's assistance to industries and communities of water (& energy) conservation issues was offered. This was followed by a presentation from Dan Simpson and Steve Adams of Bernardi Securities concerning alternative methods of financing capital projects. Both presentations offered insight and information that many of our members might find useful for future references. We are adding links to ISTC and Bernardi's websites for those that might not have made it to the meeting to acquire the information they have to offer. (Please find them in the 'CIPWO Links' Section on the Lower Left of the Webpage.)
Following a lunch break we closed the day in the Vendors area were we took time to meet with the Vendors and view their wares. The final event was the drawing of door prizes supplied by those same vendors.
We hope to see you all at the Summer Meeting which will be held on the last Wednesday of July!
Editor's Note:
7/15/08 As additional information concerning this site I'd like to take this opportunity to mention a few things that we plan to do with it.
Mailing List: We can and will add anyone to a mailing list to inform you when this site is updated which will allow you to obtain organizational updates in the fastest way possible. It would merely require that we have your email address on file.
Vendor Recognition and Links: We hope to offer a Link Page from this website for all of our contributing vendors that would take our members (and anyone visiting this site) directly to their business's websites. I feel it is important to support those that support us. Without our vendors many of the things our organization enjoys would not be available.

CIPWO held it's Annual Summer Meeting at the Urbana Champaign Sanitary District's Northeast Plant in Urbana IL on July 30, 2008. Turn out was very good considering that this was the first event in which we depended entirely on this website for information! I believe attendence was over 50 members.
CIPWO would like to take this opportunity to thank our two presenters for this event; Tim Cicero of Vandevanter Engineering who spoke on the subject of Control and Control Theory, and Joe Piscula of Donohue & Associates who spoke on the Topic of Long Term Control Plans. The content of these subjects was very useful and informative and the manner in which they were presented was both educational and entertaining. Joe and Tim we can not thank you enough!
We also want to thank the Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District and it's staff for the opportunity to hold our meeting there and for the Tours which were given that afternoon. UCSD has and maintains Facilities that are some of the best in our Region. It's Staff are some of the finest Operators in our Community as was evidenced during the tours. Thank you.

(Note from Editor: Please pass the word of this form to anyone you think needs/wants it.)
Thank You

11/14/08 The Fall Meeting of the Board was held in Champaign, IL today. Topics discussed were the Annual Winter Meeting and Speakers as noted below this article. In addition the topic of the Newsletter was discussed and it seemed to be a consensus that the Newsletter is too problematic and as reported by our Secretary-Treasurer earlier this year too expensive to continue.
Attempts have been made to address the former issue yet delivery has and is an on-going issue. The latter issue could be addressed by increasing dues, but the Board would prefer not to do that at this time unless duly necessary.
What has been proposed instead is to use this website as a replacement for the Newsletter. By doing so costs are no longer at issue yet the problems of access which plagued the Newsletter are also resolved simply by visiting this site. Additionally, all members can and are being added to an email notification list to inform them of when this site is updated. Thus giving a much faster access to the News of the Organization than could be accomplished by any periodical.
Discussion was also given to a mail-out with this website URL to better facilitate getting the word out to the membership. You can bet this will be a topic for the Business Meeting in January.
CIPWO Winter Meeting will be held on Wednesday January 28, 2009.
Location will be at the Holiday Inn at Urbana, IL.
Sign-up will be from 9:00 AM -10:00 AM.
Directions: Just off the Lincoln Ave. Exit From I-74 on Killarney Street
Membership dues will be $5. As of this time the cost for Lunch is again $20.
Speakers will be:
First Speaker; Dan Marsh, Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, University of Illinois Topic: Strategic Energy and Water Reduction (Initiative)
Second Speaker; Dan Simpson, Bernardi Securities Topic: Alternate Method(s) for Project Financing
CIPWO Summer Meeting Report
 2009 CIPWO Summer Meeting Demo
CIPWO's annual Summer Meeting took place on July, 29th and was hosted by the Newton WWTP, and the City of Newton, IL. The meeting began in the Park at an outdoor pavilion with plenty of good shade, fresh air, and accommodating weather. Larry Dorn and his operators had everything ready to receive us and I wish to thank them for their generosity. The combination of location, weather, and atmosphere truly made this one of the most relaxed meetings I have ever attended. The business of the day was accomplished without it feeling like business at all. Thanks Larry.
A few short business items were discussed such as upcoming dates for IAWPCO Regional Meetings. (Please see our link to the IAWPCO site for more information) The meeting was turned over to Mike Lockhart and the Spectra Tech Team for a manhole demonstration. The demo was given at a manhole near the park and I believe that after seeing the final product this technology was exactly as billed. I am adding a link to Spectra Tech’s website and the vendor’s link. Please check it out. I wish to thank Mike and all those from Spectra Tech who made the demo possible. The demo involved half-a-dozen people, equipment, product, time, and effort. While a sincere thank you is the best CIPWO can offer we hope that our members will consider Spectra Tech for their manhole rehab programs.
Following the demonstration the members reconvened at the pavilion for a tasty lunch of burgers, brats and all the fixins supplied by CIPWO and PDC Labs (no lunch fee was required this year). Our Chef and Sous-chef were Dave Miller and Frank MacPherson, whose performance was well above the call of duty. Thanks Dave and Frank.
Lunch was followed by drawings for door prizes, again supplied by our contributing members, such as PDC Labs, Teklab Inc, and Vandevanter Engineering (to name a few); as always we are grateful.
The meeting then adjourned to the Newton WWTP proper for its final stop where a very informative tour was given by our own VP Larry Dorn. Might I suggest that if you were not able to make this meeting but sometime might be in the Newton area that you see if Larry would mind you stopping in. I promise you it will be time well spent. The new facility is a showplace both in its upkeep and appearance, and in its use of new technology and materials. Larry and his operators have every right to be proud of their new baby.
In closing I wish to again thank everyone who made the meeting the success that it was which was, in my opinion, Excellent!
