Semiahmoo is named for the Native American Indians who fished the coastal waters of Washington and British Columbia.  Located at the tip of a mile long natural peninsula on the west side of Drayton Harbor, it is surrounded on three sides by waters from the Puget Sound.  From the late 1800’s through the early 1970’s, the coastline where the resort sits today was a primary canning site, distributing salmon to various ports of call along the Pacific Coast of the U.S. and Canada.

The resort opened in 1987 and integrated the cannery structure into the building designs.  The golf course has won many major awards and hosted qualifying for both the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open tournaments.  In keeping with its heritage, the course is also certified by the Audobon Cooperative Sanctuary Program.  Beachcombers have explored the shores of the resort for centuries and clam digging is superb among the five miles of beaches that surround the resort.  The Peace Arch Park at the U.S. / Canadian border is within view.  The marina plays host to 300 boats of every shape and size, as well as being a natural habitat for the local seal and seabird populations.  Mount Baker, at nearly 11,000 feet, is viewable from the bayside Inn at the resort and is a 90 minute drive inland.  Guests to Mount Baker National Forest can enjoy the same vistas that inspired Jack London to detail the scenes in his novel “Call of the Wild.”
