ZTA’s Commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness

In 1992, Zeta Tau Alpha adopted The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as the Fraternity's national philanthropy. Later, the Fraternity voted to broaden its focus to include other means dedicated to fighting breast cancer through education, awareness and promoting breast health.

THINK-PINK!®, a registered trademark of ZTA with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, is the umbrella for all of our breast cancer education and awareness projects.

Typically during the month of October, chapters distribute THINK-PINK!® ribbons, BSE calendar stickers and shower cards. However, many chapters promote THINK-PINK!® throughout the year.

Each year, members distribute one million waterproof shower cards which identify how to perform breast self-examinations; volunteer at more than 86 Race for the Cure® events nationwide; and co-sponsor the Survivor Program for the Race® series.

Zeta volunteers at the Chicago Race for the Cure

ZTA alumnae and collegiate members also distribute pink ribbons and breast cancer awareness information each Fall at the National Football League and Major League Baseball games. Chicago-area Zetas participated at a Chicago Bears game on September 28 this year.

Additionally, our chapter members, along with friends and family members, will be saving their Yoplait yogurt lids that are specially marked "Save Lids to Save Lives" and sending our lid collection to Yoplait. For every lid that Yoplait receives from ZTA, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, up to $1.5 million. In addition, Yoplait will donate 5 cents to the ZTA Foundation up to 300,000 lids. Thanks to the efforts of Zetas across the country, Yoplait donated $15,000 to the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation for the Fall 2005 collection program.

A Safe Place/Lake County Crisis Center

The women and children who reside at A Safe Place have had their lives changed dramatically through the inhumanity of domestic violence.

These women come to A Safe Place because they were able to find the strength and courage inside themselves to make a difference for their own lives and the lives of their children. A Safe Place offers them shelter, support, and encouragement to continue their journeys toward a peaceful existence.

North Shore Alumnae chapter has adopted A Safe Place as our local philanthropy to help women and children affected by domestic violence. This year, we are collecting monetary donations at each meeting and will make a donation to the center in the spring through ZTA Foundation.
