Pinewood Derby

Well, another Derby has come and gone. The boys had a great time and there were many close races. Pack 103 would like to start by saying thank you to all the volunteers who stepped up and helped out, without their help the boys wouldn't have a race.

The Derby was coordinated this year by the Pinewood Derby Chairman, Bill Mc Kinley. We would also like to recognize Beth Schrader (concessions) and Brandon Schrader (main race official), both seasoned veterans of many Pinewood Derbies (and many to come). Michelle Parks and Danya Burk were instrumental in tallying the race results. Helping out with the race were many race officials: Danya Burk (registration), Sandra Barciszewski (race coordination), and Danny Young, Brian Barciszewski, and Heath Hughey (car staging).

And now, on to the results. The first award that will be mentioned is the 'Intrepid' Turtle award, congratulations goes out to Jacob H. for the 'Intrepid' Turtle award. The award for Best Engineered car went to Camden B. and the award for Best Paint job went to Brady Y.

The Den Champions were:

  • Tiger Den Champion, Camden B.
  • Wolf Den Champion, Peyton S.
  • Bear Den Champion, Noah B.
  • Webelos 1 Champion, Wyatt S.

The top five finalists were:

  • 5th place, Wyatt S.
  • 4th place, Brandon L.
  • 3rd place, Cole H.
  • 2nd place, Noah B.
  • And the 2010 Grand Champion, Peyton S.

Congratulations to all of the boys who competed, no matter how you did you came out a winner. The boys learned a little bit about racing and physics (big stuff!), fair play, and having fun. They also got a chance to spend some time with a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or other family member (building and racing the car). And in the end, Scouting is about family!

Keep an eye on the website, pictures will soon follow.
