2011 Programs - This year we will be studying the book, "Samplers and Stitches" by Mrs. Archibald (Grace) Christie. Mrs. Christie documents a variety of stitches and techniques in embroidery which we hope to cover in 2011 and may continue into 2012 if members interest continues.

Pincushion kits from patterns distributed in 2006 were handed out. All the machine work necessary had already been done so that each kit could be completed at the meeting. Kits included prism needle-roll, duck, rabbit. For those that donated their finished project back to the guild, the kit was free. All kits were made from old kimono silk fabric. Hope provided all materials plus needles and thread for finishing. Cross-stitch patterns for the chapter emblem were passed out to members present. Gifts were presented to those that contributed to the Festival of Trees project. Members displayed several day caps made for Lincoln New Salem, which will be used for the next meeting's theme.

Finishing Technique

Finishing technique demonstrated included two ways to finish small embroideries to stand up as three dimensional objects, and one way to make boxes.

Choice of corner and border motifs for handkerchiefs, placemats, napkins, etc., collars or day caps were presented. Designs from Hartley and from any of several Godey magazines. Members selected designs they wanted to work on.

Tuesday, March 20th

Program

The program began with patterns from collar design from 1831 and 1859, and a cross-stitch pattern for fancy capital letters from 1859.  Members were also given the original pattern for the PAC chapter pin, stitched on linen.  The pattern included instructions for hem stitching the final piece.  Members were requested to participate in fund-raising activities for the guild.  Several bookmarks of designs done for the Dana Thomas House from Frank Lloyd Wright window designs were distributed.  Several members took the kits to complete.

Finishing Technique

Finishing of bookmarks several ways (this won’t be repeated in April).

Tuesday, April 17th

Program

Several members turned in bookmarks for the Dana Thomas House.  Show and Tell included an Art Girlz™ project, unusual fibers, cocoons and mulberry bark kits, an Art of Quilting DVD and an award-winning doll for best historical presentation.  The doll clothing included pantaloons, 3 petticoats, hoop, chemise, dress and hat.  Members worked on finishing bookmarks and reviewed the hem stitching techniques.

Finishing technique included hem stitching.  Several examples of hem stitched linens were distributed, including some with double hem stitching.

Tuesday, July 17th

Program

The presentation consisted of the Hartley chapter on Berlin work, pages 83-84 worked on canvas with beads and wool, which can be done in many sizes as a tote bag or purse. Also demonstrated was tatting technique using heavy twine.

Tuesday, August 21th

Program

Members were shown the Hartley chapter on Herringbone, page 143-145 or Braiding, page 36, 45, or 46. Choice of 4 kits will have pre-basting of pattern design done. There are so many shoe patterns in the vintage magazines, and since many of us have occasional need for baby shower gifts or gifts for young girls we thought this would be a fun change. Either size could also be used as ornaments. In addition, patterns for the kissing Santas for the FOT project were provided. Some members displayed bookmarks completed for the Dana Thomas House.

Finishing Technique

Demonstration of finishing for doll or baby shoes, which may also be used as tree ornaments.

Tuesday, September 18th
