WELCOME TO the McHENRY COUNTY Chapter
Project Linus is a national, volunteer non-profit organization that was started in 1995. It is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "Blanketeers".

It is also our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities for the benefit of children.

The McHenry County Chapter of Project Linus was started in November 2002 by Linda Mestling. Thanks go to Linda for 7 1/2 years as Chapter Coordinator and donating 5,206 blankets in that time! GREAT JOB LINDA!
As of March 2010 the current chapter coordinator is Maddie Pepe. Assistant: Phyllis Croswell.

Welcome to our website. If you can't find what you are looking for here, please contact me using the box below
or try the Project Linus National website at...www.ProjectLinus.org for patterns, skip stitch blades or making a cash donation.

We Love NEW HAND MADE Blankets! All shapes, sizes and bright colors. Crochet, knitted, quilted, tied, fleece, etc. As long as they are NEW, HAND MADE, WASHABLE and bright kid friendly colors, we will accept them.

Are you a scout troop needing a service project?
Are you a church group looking for a service project?
Do you quilt and now have an abundance of fabric you don't quite know what to do with?
Are you looking for something to do during the long winter nights in front of the television?
Do you know a kid who needs some service hours?
Are you a high school teacher looking for a fun service project for your youth?

Well look no further! You have come to the right place.

We have only a couple of requirements. All blankets must be NEW, HANDMADE, WASHABLE AND KID FRIENDLY COLORS. That's it. You don't have to tell me you are making blankets. Just call when they are finished or drop them off at one of two drop sites. That's it! Couldn't be easier.

THIS CHAPTER IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING DOUBLE LAYER/TIED FLEECE BLANKETS.

***FLEECE*** If you are making tied fleece blankets single layer are better than double layer. Why? Because double layer fleece can be too hot in the hospitals and it also gets to be too heavy. Double tied blankets quite often need to be remade. If you do single layer rather than double you now get two blankets instead of one! That's fantastic, right?
Some of the organizations that this chapter donates blankets to include:
CENTEGRA McHenry Hospital
CENTEGRA Woodstock Hospital
First Way Pregnancy
T.A.M.I., teen age mothers
It's Our Little Secret.org
D.C.F.S.- Department of Children and Family Services

*We welcome inquiries by organizations who serve children age 0-18 and are needing blankets.
