ProjectLinusLogo-CoveredInLove.jpg Welcome to McHenry County Illinios Chapter of Project Linus

Project Linus is a national, volunteer non-profit organization that was started in 1995. There are over 400 chapters through out the US. It is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children in crisis. Whether these kids are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need we will support them through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "Blanketeers".

It is also our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities for the benefit of children.

NOVEMBER 2012 WAS THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THIS CHAPTER. We have now donated over 10,000 blankets from the McHenry County Chapter. AWESOME and THANK YOU to all my dedicated blanketeers!

Welcome to our website. If you can't find what you are looking for here, please contact me using the box below
or try the Project Linus National website at...www.ProjectLinus.org for patterns, skip stitch blades or making a cash donation.

We Love NEW HAND MADE Blankets! All shapes, sizes and bright colors. Crochet, knitted, quilted, tied, fleece(only single layer fleece), etc. As long as they are NEW, HAND MADE, WASHABLE and bright kid friendly colors, single layer fleece, we will accept them.

Are you a scout troop needing a service project?
Are you a church group looking for a service project?
Do you quilt and now have an abundance of fabric you don't quite know what to do with?
Are you looking for something to do during the long winter nights in front of the television?
Do you know a kid who needs some service hours?
Are you a high school teacher looking for a fun service project for your youth?

Well look no further! You have come to the right place.

We have only a couple of requirements. All blankets must be NEW, HANDMADE, WASHABLE AND KID FRIENDLY COLORS (single layer fleece only/double layer tied fleece is taken apart). That's it. You don't have to tell me you are making blankets. Just call when they are finished or drop them off at one of two drop sites. That's it! Couldn't be easier.

THIS CHAPTER IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING DOUBLE LAYER/TIED FLEECE BLANKETS.
THIS CHAPTER IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING DOUBLE LAYER/TIED FLEECE BLANKETS.

THESE ARE THE BLANKETS MADE WITH TWO LAYERS OF FLEECE TIED TOGETHER. Double layer tied fleece are taken apart and made into single layer fleece.

Double layer tied fleece has to be taken apart by my volunteers.

Please understand that my drop off points will no longer accept double tied fleece donated anonymously.

  • The hospitals have limited storage areas so big, bulky double layer tied fleece takes up too much space. Single layer fleece means the hospital can have more blankets on hand.

    • Double-layer (2 pieces) tied fleece is... Too Bulky.

    • Double-layer (2 pieces) tied fleece is... Too Heavy.

    • Double-layer (2 pieces) tied fleece is... Too Hot.

    • Double-layer (2 pieces) tied fleece is... Too Problematic.

***FLEECE*** If you are making tied fleece blankets single layer are better than double-layer/2 pieces. Why? Because double-layer fleece can be too hot in the hospitals and it also gets to be too heavy. Double-layer tied blankets quite often need to be remade. If you do single layer rather than double you now get two blankets instead of one! That's fantastic, right?

CAN WE TALK SELVAGES FOR A MINUTE? Please save me some time by cutting off the long edges of the fleece. This is the part that is curled, sometimes white, thinner and just plain UGLY. The selvages you leave on, I have to cut off. Trust me it takes you minutes and me hours to fix this problem. Your reward for cutting the selvages off is you can make some awesome dog toys with the cut off parts. No waste! And I will be jumping up and down when I see how nice your blankets turned out with the selvages removed. Plus my family will be happy because I can make dinner instead of sitting on the floor FOR HOURS fixing all those blankets. PLEASE and THANK YOU.
