NEW ORGANIZATION NEEDS 200 BLANKETS!!A new advocacy group for kids in foster care in McHenry County has approached me to donate blankets to a Journey Pack that is being put together. Initially there will be a need for 200 extra blankets that this chapter does not currently have! So how are your blanket making skills? Can you help support this foster care group? **We have met our goal! Thank you everyone for the great efforts of all our "Blanketeers". You guys are amazing!! If you want to check out their website go to www.itsourlittlesecret.org. NEW CHAPTER COORDINATOR EFFECTIVE 31 March 2010 Linda Mestling was the founder of the McHenry County chapter of Project Linus in 2002. Due to other involvement, Linda has stepped down from this chapter. I personally would like to thank Linda for all her hard work and dedication in making this chapter such a huge success. As the new chapter coordinator I know I will have some big shoes to fill in her absence. Linda and the McHenry Country chapter have donated over 5,200 blankets since this chapter was started!! WOW! I hope that all the woman who have worked so hard at making all these blankets will continue to make the blankets and give them to me to pass on the same as Linda has for the past 8 years. Feel free to drop me a line, call or send an email if I can be of any assistance. Looking forward to meeting all of you... Maddie Pepe Phyllis Close was recently featured in the local newspaper for her donation of 50 hand made knitted blankets. Phyllis also makes teddy bears that are donated through Bear Hugs of Chicagoland. BLANKET DAY 13 FEBRUARY 2010

Our 2009 Make a Blanket Drive was held from January 1 thru February 21, 2009. Again hosted by Lynda Remmers, owner of Sewing Concepts in Woodstock, this years's drive brought in over 230 blankets! There were so many really outstanding blankets! We thank everyone who took the time to crochet, knit, quilt, or hand-tie a fleece blanket or two (or three or more!) for our chapter. We are now in the process of sorting and labeling each blanket for delivery to the hospitals and social agencies throughout McHenry County that receive our donations. Thanks again to each and every one of you who support our McHenry County chapter of Project Linus. The winner of this year's prize basket was actually a group that sent blankets our way: Mercy Harvard Hospital! Congratulations Ladies!! 2009 MAKE A BLANKET DRIVE!! This year’s “Make a Blanket Drive” will be hosted once again by Lynda Remmers, owner of Sewing Concepts in Woodstock. We will be offering a large Prize Basket for one lucky entrant to win! For each blanket you donate between January 1 and February 21, 2009, you will receive a raffle ticket to win the Basket. The winning entry will be drawn at Sewing Concepts on February 21st. All blankets entered must be new, handmade, and washable. We ask they be made in “kid friendly” colors. Minimum size should be approx. 30” x 30” (baby blankets). Another very popular size is approx. 48” x 60” (toddler size). Larger sizes for teens are also always welcome. Our chapter donates all sizes to McHenry county hospitals and community agencies, so please know whatever size you donate, we will do our utmost to find the best home for it! Sewing Concepts is located right on the Square in Woodstock at 110 S. Johnson St. (Woodstock Square Mall). Blankets can be dropped off during store hours: Monday thru Thursday 10-5, Friday, 10-6, Saturday 10-3. If you need additional information, please call Lynda Remmers, Sewing Concepts, at 815-338-7754. Although there will be no special classes or demos offered this year, we could really use some volunteers to help us sew Project Linus labels on the blankets, or to work on blankets that they may wish to donate. Lynda again will have sewing machines available for anyone who can help us out. Just stop by Sewing Concepts anytime from 10am until noon on February 21st. We will really appreciate it! Last year, we collected over 400 blankets during our drive! We hope you help make this year’s drive as successful! Please check our website in March for blanket drive details (including number of blankets received), along with the winner of the Prize Basket. We also send this information to the Neighbors section of the Northwest Herald for publication. Because of the huge number of blanket we receive, it is financially impossible for me to send out individual thank you notes for any blankets donated during our drive. So let me thank in advance every one of you who donates your blanket to us!! We couldn’t keep our chapter going without your help! MAKE A BLANKET DRIVE 2008 RESULTS!
