Join us the second Tuesday of every month. We will be hosting a Project Linus workshop for those who would like to get together to make blankets for children.

Come any time between 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the New Lenox Village Hall. You can sew, tie, knit,or crochet blankets. Anne, our resident quilter will be happy to help beginners start or old pros learn new techniques. If you are looking for a crochet teacher, Deb can help you.

In order to plan for fun events that meet most peoples' levels of interest and ability, please indicate what type of blankets you are interested in making - no-sew fleece or machine pieced blankets in a variety of patterns. RSVP so that we can make sure we have a chair for you.

If you would like a newsletter to learn blanket guidelines, find patterns, discover agencies we serve, or find out how you can get involved, please call Nicole at 1-815-462-1752.

Blanket Guidelines

Project Linus National Headquarters sets specific guidelines for the blankets our volunteers make. Project Linus greatly appreciates your efforts to meet the following guidelines:

  • Use only new material, handmade, washable and in bright, child-friendly or teen-friendly colors and patterns.
  • Please donate only odor-free blankets. Most of our recipients cannot use blankets that have odors of pets, chemicals, smoke, or heavy perfume.
  • Triple check that you take out all pins and do not embellish the blankets with any buttons or hanging items.
  • You may sew on your own tag but do not attach tags or notes to blankets with pins of any sort.
  • Please use only one piece of fleece for a blanket. A blanket with two pieces tied together is too heavy for children to drag around and is too warm for the summer months.

We truly appreciate the time you put into these blankets, not to mention the beautiful artwork, however, if these guidelines are not met, the chapter coordinator must discard them. Please only donate a blanket you would give to a child you love.

Toddlers love bright colors.

If knitting afghans, use soft, pastel yarns.

Toddler (2-6 years)
44" x 44" for fabric quilts.

Youth Medium (7-12 years)
44" x 54" for fabric quilts. 50" x width for fleece.

Youth Large (13-17 years)

Important Note
Please match the age/size of the blanket to the pattern you choose. Blankets that have a baby-ish theme can only be donated to the 0-2 year olds, no matter what size they are. For the 7-17 groups, try psychedelic colors and patterns, and sports prints.

Patriotic Blankets
If you love to make patriotic blankets, get busy! We donate blankets to Grief Camp on Memorial Day. Grief Camp is held for the children of soldiers that have been killed in action. A blanket seems like a poor substitute for the loss of a parent, but it gives the children something they can hold on to in their time of need.

Children of soldiers love red, white, and blue.
