 Independent Reading Project
 Independent Reading Project
Your first job is to pick a book off of your recommended reading list. You will read one of those books and complete a set of activities. The following activities are required:
1. Write a summary of the book. Include the topic of the story and important details, and use your own words to tell me what it was about. Your summary should be at least 1 page!
2. Complete a vocabulary chart. Make 3 columns on paper. In the first column list 10 new words from the book. In the second column write the definition, and in the third column use the word in a sentence.
3. Using the Inspiration software in our classroom, make a character web for one character in the book. You must add a minimum if 10 details, but as many details as possible is recommended. Be creative with its design. Check in with me to sign up for a day or time to use it (Wednesday Morning Mentoring is always best!).
4. Write a reflection of the book. This should tell me what you thought about it, what was difficult or easy, what did you like or dislike, and would you recommend it to a friend, why or why not.
You must choose one of the following activities from below:
1. Create a 3-D timeline representing all of the important events from your story. The more creative your timeline is the better off your grade will be! If you made a timeline last time you need to create a new design for it! You will be marked down for repeating what you have already done.
2. Pick a topic that is related to the story and research it (For example if you are reading Number the Stars, your topic could be the Holocaust). You will create a poster display and present what you learned to the class. The presentation will be 5 minutes, and you are encouraged to be very creative! Props, costumes, etc are all great additions to your presentation.
3. Turn your story into a comic book! As you read you should be able to picture what is happening. Now you are going to turn those visions into your own comic book version of the story. Be sure to use lots of color and imagination in your drawings, include captions for the boxes, and speech bubbles for the characters’ conversations. If you need some guidance look at some of our Read 180 paperbacks that are printed in comic book format.
All of these projects will be presented to the class! Be prepared on your scheduled day!
DUE DATE: Friday, May 14th
ALL PROJECTS TURNED IN EARLY WILL RECEIVE EXTRA CREDIT!
