*January Market Day Facts

"Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on, so that children have very little time for their parents. Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of peace of the world."

---Mother Teresa

Happy 2008!

Welcome back to St. Mary's for the completion of the 2007-2008 school year! Lots of great events are already planned for the remainder of this year and we can't wait to share them with the students and their families.

Catholic Schools week is coming up January 27-February 1 and there's something planned each day for the students to enjoy (and a few events for parents too!). February 4 we will be having another Pizza Villa night - let's hope they are ready for all of us! The 100th day of school will fall in February - we are working on some special plans to help celebrate that day. In March we'll be having our spring book fair from March 4-6 with a family dinner on the 5th. March 14 is the annual fun fair and we have lots of new surprises for all the attendees.

There's some assemblies coming up too - in February, Marmion Military Academy will be coming out to perform for our students, and the Wheel of Wisdom game show is heading to us in March. Keep your eyes and ears open for more info about future events. Hope to see you soon!

Catholic Schools Week

Help us celebrate Catholic Schools Week, January 27 - February 1. Here are just some of the events we have planned:

Sunday - Breakfast after each of the masses. Come out to enjoy a delicious meal and let the parishoners know how much we appreciate their support.

Tuesday - Family Open House. Come over to the school while classes are in seesion and get a feel for how things work during the day. Your children and their teachers are sure to impress you. (refreshments will be served)

Wednesday - Students vs Staff volleyball game. The older students will take on the staff as the rest of the children cheer them on in this highly anticipated game.

Thursday - Gavin Wilson will be performing an exceptional assembly to entertain the students in the afternoon.

Friday - All school mass. Pack a sack lunch and come eat with your children during their lunch hour. Enjoy this chance to see your child in the middle of the day.

In addition to these activities, the Student Council is also working on some great ideas to help us celebrate. Watch in the Tuesday envelope for more details on all these events.

Next H&S Meeting on February 13!!

The Home and School Association will hold a monthly meeting the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria (Unless otherwise noted). We welcome all members of the St. Mary's community to attend and we will be providing snacks and craft projects for parents who wish to bring their children along. If we can help make a meeting more convenient for you or if you cannot attend but have a comment or suggestion that you would like brought up, please let us know. At the February meeting we will be recruiting volunteers for the book fair and ideas for the fun fair. Hope to see you there!

Family time at Pizza Villa!

  Pizza Villa Night!

Students enjoying the last Pizza Villa Night

The next Pizza Villa Night will be held on February 4 from 4pm - close at Pizza Villa on Lincoln Highway. A coupon will go out in the Tuesday envelopes and for everyone who presents a coupon upon ordering, 20% of their purchase will go back to the school. This is a great opportunity to get to know other St. Mary families and enjoy a delicious meal.

Did you know?

If every student in our school brought in just 4 Box Tops each month, we would receive a check for over $1000!! Check out the link at the left to find products, coupons, and other fun stuff related to Box Tops. (You can even track our school's progress!)

Service Project!!

Help St. Mary's students complete a great service project by saving your pop tops to benefit Ronald McDonald House. For every 100lbs collected, Home & School will sponsor a school-wide pizza party!!! Look for the big orange bucket in the office to place your tabs in.

  More ways to help........

Next time you need to search the internet for information use Goodsearch and St. Mary School will earn money. Make sure to pick St Mary Dekalb for your designated charity and each time you perform a search you can watch our profits increase! You can also shop at many online stores through Goodsearch and a percentage of your purchase will come back to the school.

FEATURED TEACHER - MRS. FELTES!!!

(Not really Mrs. Feltes!)

We are all very lucky to have Mrs. Feltes enjoying her 11th year here at St. Mary School. Mrs. Feltes lives in DeKalb with her husband Brian and has two wonderful children, Andrew and Christine. If she could have any superpower she'd love the ability to travel through time (maybe while eating her favorite snack food - chocolate!). Mrs. Feltes loves to work on her photo scrapbooks and do cross stitch in her spare time - that would be when she's not enjoying her favorite tv shows, M*A*S*H or Friends. If you'd like Mrs. Feltes to accompany you to a movie make sure it has Mel Gibson or George Clooney in it - then she'll be sure to say yes!

If we were not fortunate enough to have Mrs. Feltes as a computer teacher, she would probably be working as a speech therapist or, even better, vacationing at her dream spot - Maui, Hawaii. Make sure to congratualte Ms. Feltes on being the featured teacher next time you see her working hard at the school!
